I was trying to decide what kind of paint to paint my John Deere 2510, and one of my buddies thought I should paint it IH red. I said, well, ok i will, and I am also going to smash half of the transmission gears to make it shift like an IH. Haha

You can order a new JD tractor in many colors, including red, but it will cost about $1000 extra. Most of my tractors are orange because that's the way they came. I offered my John Deere dealer a low ball price on a new 7130 but only on condition that it be painted orange at no extra cost. They failed to see the humor. They do tend to take their green paint quite seriously.

It's keeping the engine from falling out the bottom while the clutch is being replaced.

Both the engine rear main seal, and the tranny's front seal were hard and brittle from age, and leaking oil into the clutch.

The truck on the left is a '62, the one on the right is a '63.

I made a special wrench so that I can remove the transmission from the bell housing so I do not have to support the engine. It does save a bit of time but those bottom two bolts are a lot fun to get out that way.

If you REALLY want to admire something IH made tough as heck, how about their trucks?

He's a couple in my shop this spring for some minor work:

Hey Bob!! where did you find those Load stars that look in fairly good condition. The ones around here have been sent to china and back.--Reincarnated of course. You did say minor work didn't you??Looks like pieces on the oil catcher. I drove one of them back in early 60's when working for a driveway installer.

They are working trucks that will be used by neighbors to haul seed wheat. One had electrical problems, and the one on the left got a new clutch.

I did not think you actually had to paint a John Deere.

I always heard that you park 'em next to an International and they turn green on their own...

Just what I heard,

Aaron

Well you know there are a lot of people that know it all.....they get these nice new toys, and never read the manual..... .

If you shift the TA quickly and keep it adjusted, it will last for years....

Been there --- done that..... ...Don

NO NEED to break any gears. Just install a TA. That will have the same effect.

ever notice when you see TA's mentioned.. that you have to specifically prefix it with the word 'working'.. ( if it is ) ;)

I people new how to operate a TA they last a long time. Just leave the 2510 green so when it breaks down and the grass grows around it it blends in with the surroundings.

WHY should you have to "baby" a function of a tractor???

Allan, as rabid of an IH nut as there is posted about that recently on the Farmall Forum.

And I quote Allan... "Use it, that's what it is on there for."
