Is there anything out there you can paint a brand new muffler with and it not start rusting and looking bad as soon as it gets hot? I don't really want to go chrome / stainless... not the look I'm going for.. but hi-temp stove paint has not done it for me.. any ideas?

Why for what you spend on paint you probley can buy a couple more mufflers down the road so why worry all mufflers rot from the inside out any way

If you want to stay inexpensive, go with VHT paint. It will actually work better if you "preheat" the exhaust system. This stuff is available at most speed shops- it's used for painting headers.
Ceramic coating is the way to go- it will last forever. Ask around at motorcycle shops- they will know someone who does it locally

Dupli-color makes a high heat rattle can paint with ceramic in it and I have had excellent results with staying on. The paint seems to have a low sheen not like conventional BBQ grill flat paints that burn and wipe off. Also have used the case/IH brand with good results, very pricey, almost more than replacement muffler and I"ve only seen it in silver. Good luck!

One of the main culprits for destroying the original coating is not running it in! Gentle heat for the initial stages of use will harden the coating instead of burning it off.

Take off the paint they spray new mufflers with & clean & prep surface, i use high heat rustoleum aluminum, & have probably painted 8 or so & it stays on & looks great on show tractors. i think they also make it in black or i have used barbeque black paint, it always rubbed off on manifolds i did though.

Check out Eastwood they have some special exhaust coatings. I used their header coating on my Corvette and its lasted 7 or 8 years. I know they have stuff for the exhaust too but I haven't used it.

You have to take a wire wheel and grind off the silver paint on new muffler then paint it with barbaque grill paint.

I would try paint for hot rod headers. It is supposed to be hi-temp.

The other problem may be surface prep before you paint. The surface may be somewhat plated or galvanized, or there may be oil on it. It might work to lightly sand or sandblast the surface and then wipe it down with lacquer thinner. And following the directions on the paint, as to coats and drying time between coats is a must.

I never had much luck keeping headers looking very good, but usually the problem was that they got scratched up during installation. A tractor muffler might work a whole lot better, since you don't have to wrestle it around so much to get it in place.

Also, the paint cures after the part it is covering gets hot, but not too hot. I don't think anything will stick to a pipe that gets red hot, like some exhausts do when a tractor is working hard. Good luck!

Take a can of high temp paint and spray it into the inlet and exhaust ends of your muffler until it is all gone. Paint the outside with high temp silver.

I used some high temp paint from tractor supply. It was black and good to 1500 degrees. used it on a muffler and exhaust manifold on a John Deere 40-W. Still looks good. Been on about a year now..... ..... .rw

Try a ceramic paint. Used it on a set of hedders once, seemed to stay on them. j
