$8 a bushel future here a bit back I, I missed it. I gotta get on it. It is still $6.00, I just have to see what the minimum amount has to be because I just have maybe 7 acres of it. Kinda wish now I would have just put the whole darn 36 acres in it, I only payed $2 a bushel for the seed last fall, this corn and bean planting the rest is starting to get a little pricey compared to the rye!

Well it's tough stuff, longsteed straw makes great bedding. around here alot is grown as winter pasture, remainder as seed crop. For my money, I like oats.

How many bushels can you get off an acre?

Well, I've seen everything from 50-25 in this area from others, I am expecting a 35 average.

The straw tends to be very long & a bit corse. It makes good bedding, but we always ran it through the straw chopper to make it so.

Dad used to grow a fair amount of rye, but that was before the rye mill in town burned down, and the elevator in town was owned by Peevey & had trucks hauling rye from South Dakota to here in southern MN to dump. Now the elevator is owned by a local coop.

I wouldn't know where to sell rye here in southern MN any more, can be a challenge to find a place to dump oats or wheat sometimes.....
