Anyone out there have any good or bad comments on the Chevy Equinox SUV's? Let me know. We are considering purchasing a 2006 or 2007 if we can find what we want. I found some negative news on the 2005 (first year for these) so we are staying away from those. Thanks

Spook, you're thinking of the Aveo. That is a Chinese P.O.S. coffin on wheels. There is a CVT trans option for the Equinox that is not made by Hydramatic div of GM. The 3.4 is American made.

Buy something else! I have had GM for 30 years and it might be Honda time. Now have 02 Buick Rendevous AWD- under powered, nice seats, nice ride. 06 Eqinox LT-FWD plenty of power, uncomfortable leather seats, a large blind spot from the wide windshield door pillar on the right side, very harsh ride. I have a 06 Silverado 2500HD 4x4 and would rather drive that 500 miles than the Equinox. If I can fill my fall crop contracts will replace both crossovers with either Honda Pilot or GM Acadia-Enclave-Outlook depending on the test drive not the price. Both my brother and sister drive Honda vehicles and they have very high praise for them.

The wife and I looked at a 06 model and it had a Chinese engine in it and was only rated for 36k miles on the warranty, so we got her a 2007 HHR, 100K mile power train warr. I dont trust a Chinese engine.

My inlaws have one, they like it for the most part. The mileage is decent for a cross over - great compared to their Trailblazer. Their biggest complaint is that it doesn't have a third row seat like our Ford Freestyle (now the Ford Taurus X) and its interior seemed cheap compared to it and other import cross overs. With about 40K on it he claims its never been in the shop yet.

If it had a third row seat I would have considered one, but we really needed the 7 passenger capacity instead of 5 passenger.

I like my "97 Dodge Durango. Maybe bigger than you want, but I like the Durango for its looks, size, weight capacity, and a few other comfort features, too. I drive the Durango a lot when I have to go any distance, mostly because it gets better mileage than my truck and is more comfortable to drive. I have Hooker performance exhaust installed in the Durango, and I do believe it helped my performance and fuel economy.

I haven't figured out yet why anyone in their right mind would buy an SUV in the first place. All they are is a fad. They're gas hogs, impracticle, don't handle worth a darn, and the list goes on.

People say they need 4WD for bad weather. It happens I live on gravel, a mile and a half from the nearest paved road. At the moment, I own two 4X4 pickups, a front wheel drive minivan and a front wheel drive Olds 88. I also can't remember the last time I used one of the pickups because I absolutely HAD to have 4WD, deer hunting and firewood cutting excluded.

Crossovers are like your minivan but without the sliding doors and handheld vacuum cleaner styling.

Real SUV's are nice as they can actually haul things in the back, tow and go offroad. Lately they have grown into a status symbol, but they have been around since the 30's for a good reason.

Using it for what type of duty? I always felt more comfortable with a vehicle having an engine sitting north-south and driving the rear wheels. The bottom has dropped out of the large vehicle market. It's cheaper to save several thousand on the vehicle price. And spend $10.00 a week more on fuel.

There was a thread on Yahoo about a month ago about the 10 worst new vehicles, and the Equinox was almost at the top of the list.Poor mileage, below average reliability, bad fit and finish, bad handling..... .
