that happened with mine and it does that on a hill because the oil level is to high I was told to remove a little oil and keep it below full a little bit about 1/16 of inch and it helped me. good luck

Just got my LT1018 back from cub cadet shop. It too had saem problem you described. Turned out mine blew a head gasket and then wore down one of the Lobes on the camshaft. And my cub only had 94 Hrs on it.

I recommendthat if you have a compression gauge you pull the plug and do a compression test. When mine started smoking I too removed a bit of oil thinking it was overfilled.

Boy !! Did I pay the price. $352.44 for the new head gasket, camshaft and milling the warped head.
