O?T 72 gmc pickup rear end oil change makes differance

i had just picked up a 72 rust free gmc 4x4, anyway i was told it was a posi, but it stoped working as one a yr ago by the guy, well i figued id pull the cover & check it out, couldnt find anything wrong as it spun one wheel like he said when i drove it home. well i put a qt of lucas in it & filled rest way up with vavoline 80-90 backed out drove down town & tryed it out & wow both wheels spun, OLD Worn out oil cause that locker not to work ?

Don't know about it not working, but I have had em make noise going round corners, new fluid fixed that(Chrysler)aftermarket posi.

the original additive for the limited slip broke down. Lucas is a good substitute.
