My tractor is an early ‘80’s International 284 Tractor (S/N – 202004J001239) – 30 HP - Diesel Engine by Nissan – All wheel drive

I need: 1 x “Temperature Sending Unit”

This brass piece screws into the block of the engine, and sends an electrical signal to the water temperature “idiot light” on the tractor’s dash panel. Yesterday, my light went on, but fluid temp was low. Upon checking, this Temperature Sending Unit was found to allow transmission of an electrical current, even at room temp. I figure it should NOT allow passage of an electrical current until its sensor reaches near boiling water temperatures.

There are two stampings on the brass “nut” part of the fitting, which say:

(a) “101˚C”’

(b) “8002”

This item may NOT be listed in the tractor’s Parts catalog. Don’t know if this is true, or not, because I don’t have a Parts catalog, but was told this by another fellow I contacted earlier today.

Do any of you have one of these units (or know somebody who may)?

If so, please let me.

Thanks!

Does the sender have 2 electrical terminals on it, and it's located in front of the cylinder heaad, in the thermostat housing?

If so, try part number 1058241C1 at your CIH dealer. OOOPS... that's not gonna work... obsolete!

101ºC = 213.8ºF

If you can post back with the thread size... fractional pipe thread or metric size, I can probably find a "sub" for you.

Hi, Bob --

The unit is metric. It screws nicely into a 16 mm nut with a 1.5 thread pitch.

What do you think? Can you find it?

Thanks for the prompt response, Bob.

The sender DOES have two "prongs" on its top. They're shaped like rods, not flattened.

And, yes, the unit screws into thermostat housing (immediately underneath the thermostat).

I know the thread is metric, but I'll go to a local shop and ask them to tell me the exact specs.

Everybody is closed right now, so I'll get back to you tomorrow.

Thanks, again.
