OK here what I am up against I need some cash so I have decided to sacrifice the 158 Loader. Here are my options. I have a guy who say he will pay $3500.00 for it next week if I would hold it for him sounds like an honest guy when talking with him, he went an hour and a half to go see it.

The second option is I have a guy who wants to trade his 146 loader plus $1500.00 Cash money tomorrow! He might be able to help haul my tractor about 50 miles as well.

Which is the better deal in your opinion? Is the 146 loader worth $2000.00?? Should I wait on the full amount of cash?

Don't you think the 158 is too much for the 4020??

A 158 on a 4020 will be fine but I always thought that the 148 was a better match for a 4020. That's what I had on my 4020. Just my $.02.

146 too light in reply to Raleigh, 03-27-2008 12:13:51
Really, I don't think you should consider a 146 on a 4020....it's just too much tractor for it and there will be problems. I'm very familiar with the 146.....have one on a 2520 but that is only 60 hp and a lot lighter tractor. Go with the 158.

I agree with one other stating about 500 cash up front to hold for say 5 working days and NO refund is the only way to fly. Iron is iron. I was told by a car dealer class mate that a deal is done when each think they screw the other. So their is your sign as the cable guy would say. Still snowing in IL.

Around here.... in reply to Raleigh, 03-27-2008 12:13:51
A good 158 is worth $4000 and a good 146 is $2500 ( + or - $500 on either). What tractor? A 146 is nice on a utility type, a 158 on a 4020 or bigger.

Yep,

Never understood how the color of the paint could increase the value of something. Dunno.

one question is....
Is a decent 146 loader with $1500.00 as good as a 158 loader?

Nope, neighbor has a 158 on his 4020 and he manages to tear it up once in a while... not to mention breaking rims, until he went to a Case front-end. :)

I'd put the original loader back on the tractor.

Yep, Id go for the non refundable deposit and give him a time limit. If that falls through, take the cash deal.

Who made the 1st deal you have to look at that to keep both parties happy but I think the Cash deal would be the better deal not knowing anything about the other loader it might be a real mess and cost more to get working than its worth.

Personally, I'm not a fan of any used loader - there can be all kinds of structural cracks hidden under dirt and grease...

See if the other fella would give you $250 or so as a deposit.

Would the guy who offered you $3500 give you a non-refundable deposit? Say, $500 or so just to see if he's serious.
