I just returned from my neighbors barn, He called me and wanted me to come and look at the litter critter. I have collected tractors for 40 years and had never seen one. It causing me to think it might be a crosbreed between a pedal tractor and a little Bantam tractor. Anyway, he wanted me to tell him what it is worth. Condition is no paint left, not running, appears to be complete. I think it has a Power Products engine, the rear tires are about 8 inch tall. He claims his Father was offered $1800 for it 15 years ago and another collector told him that it was worth $3500. I told him, in my opinion it was about a $500 item, was I wrong?

Thanks for the comments, both wise and otherwise. Basically my question was this, Was my opinion of the value of the mini tractor at $500 a fair amount for him to ask so he could sell it at at fair market value? The person who told him it was worth $3500 is a fine gentleman but in reality he has no basis for his appraisal. My pricing was what I have seen on comparible Bantam's.

You know what... this old stuff has two values... what it SHOULD be worth, and what some SUCKER will pay for it if you advertise it far and wide, and wait for the right SUCKER to come along!

Of course, if it's an estate item, and 2 family members get into a pissing match over it, it's another whole deal, altogether!!!

Many people think and believe there is a fortune in these old tractors. Personally from my thoughts as a person who collects old tractors and is awfully slow in the restoration. My belief is you are lucky to get your money back.The fun part is collecting and in a great many situations bring them back to a new life. All these old tractors have completed many hours of hard work, it's nice to put them back on the fields to work the land in a leisure time frame. There is the odd time when some one is looking for a particular tractor that will spend extra cash to get the machine they want those situations are few. Cost of gas is another deterent. Couple of weks ago was talking to a mechanic that had a tractor siting outside his garage, when asked who the owner was, i was told he would sell the tractor for $250.00 , I immediately purchased the 1943 Case Industrial. when I went back on Monday to pick up the tractor the mechanic told me he sold too quickly , as he had listed the tractor on the Kijiji board for $500.00 and had 16 inquiries about the tractor. I suppose I could get most of the money back for a junk price, although won't go that route. Cheers, Murray

There is an Ad for sale on Ebay for Strunk Chipmunk Tractors, No images were found on search images. But it is a start!

If the tractor has a power products engine on it I am betting it is a Hiller Yard Hand which is awfully rare and has significant value.

You da man!! Seriously, if you play around with old tractors, old cars, trucks 0r ??? , it should be viewed as a hobby. We all hear about some guy that made a bunch of money on the 1949xx trdirectional, but I have many friends that old cars/trucks/etc, and none of them has made a dime. I think this is why you frequently see "project cars" for sale. People get started, find out how expensive and time consuming it is, and get discouraged. Old tractors ain't for sissies!!!

Boy, Spook, you got THAT right! I guess a guy should worry MORE about the cost of repairing and restoring a tractor than about the purchase price!

I'm looking at putting together a Twin City 10-20 some day, out of two "basket case tractors.

I'm gonna make MONEY on that deal though! (At least that's what I'll tell the wife!)
