Looking for ideas for fund raising for the tractor club I belong to. We were fortunate to have 35 acres donated to the club with adjoining 10 acres available for purhase. Plan to build a meeting building and make improvements in order to have the show moved to new location in '09 or '10. I have purchased raffle tickets at shows for lawn mowers, restored tractors and new small tractors. Anyone know how these work out for the clubs that put them on? Are they worth while? What about tractor drives? Any ideas would be appreciated. E-mail is open, Thanks, Chris

At the tractor show in Greensburg, IN, they have a consignment auction on the Sunday of the show. I don't know if they make much, I've only been to the show once but it was on Saturday.

Chris,
Our club is a newer club, but we get a peddle something to raffle. this year it is a JD peddle combine, it is donated by a local toy store. If you have some that are good with a welder, There are a bunch of us that will weld up bolt tractors. Each person makes a certain part, and one guy assembles them, I sand blast a lot them. they sell for 10.00 each, and we have implements for them. We have had wagons, manure spreaders, sycle bar mowers, and disc so far. We normally sell about 100-125 tractors a year and implements. When I get to my shop tomorrow, I will take some pictures and post here to show you what you they look like. We have made Olivers, Farmalls, AC and now JD for 2007. Jim

I like the scrap metal idea, I'm sure a lot of people would donate to it. Good luck :-)

We make out pretty good on Pedal Tractor Raffles. Got a local dealer that will donate a tractor. We take it to all the club events and parades. Everybody will buy a ticket or two or 6 for $5. We make our most money on hayrides at a local parks event two weekends a year. Not enough to make payments on a building though. I did hear of a group that built bus stop benches, got permission to put them out and then sold advertizing on them to make payments . Somewhere in Florida if I recall. They made out real well. Enough to buy land and built a club building.

Buy them small & buy them already restored, this works out the best. Our Club has raffled a tractor off for i think 22 years, this is the 25th year for our club. seems that you cannot get enough help to fix one up anymore, usually the same 3 or 4 people show up. Not a lot of younger members. we have given away a lot of J.D. B's and Farmall H's. They Sell the most tickets. we have a allis G this year & Farmall C For next year. Allis G Was Donated To Us, Not Selling As many tickets as usual though.

Genos and others raffling off tractors and equipment if you put your information about them out I (and I'm sure others) would probably support your club's fund raising and hope to be a winner. Caz

Perfect time for spring plowing/tilling of garden plots. Charge a reasonable fee on top of expense.. should be an enjoyable direct interest generating few days. JimN

We have conducted a tractor raffle at our club for many years. There are several keys to having a successful raffle.

Most important, get a popular model. While collectors would like to have an Allis Chalmers G, A nice utility tractor like an IH 240, Oliver Super 55, Case 430 or an Allis D15 will make you the most money.

Buy a restored tractor if you can find one. If you can't find a restored tractor to buy get some one, or a group of someones, to do a top job of restoring it.

Take the tractor to as many venues as you can to sell tickets. Tractor shows, community auctions, fairs and festivals.

Finally, remeber that the better and more desireable model that you raffle the more you will make. To date our best results have come with an Oliver Super 55 and a John Deere 2010. We netted about $10,000 on each one. We made money on all of the rest, but usually in the $2000 to $5000 area.

Collect scrap metal, we raised N.Z.$28,000 for a Christian aid project here last winter (June!) by collecting scap metal and taking it in, after expenses like Diesel for the lorry. Hope this helps, Richard.

Shot gun drawings always seem to be good. A nice pump used to raffle off. Then you need something else that perhaps a lady would want to get in the raffle on.

Antique>Link Engine and Tractor Association, Atkinson, Ill. Not sure about shotgun raffle with Illinois' restrictive gun laws. Over the last 3 years, I have bought raffle tickets for; Oliver super77 from Kansas, H Farmall at Hamilton, Ill., New Agco lawn tractor with loader and mower deck at Homestead, Ia, several pedal tractors and numerous toy ractors. Just wondering if anyone on here belongs to a club that has done this and what is invloved in setting it up and was it profitable? We are looking into grants and assistance from Ill. dept of tourism and others, but we still need to raise $$ to cover our share of expenses. Club is in 48 or 49th year, finally getting out own showgrounds instead of leasing show site. Now any improvements will belong to us and can be used to make a bigger and better show. Sept 12,13,14, check out the show guide on this site, we are there. Chris

You club could buy and old tractor. Like 8n of general perpose tractor. Paint it and clean it up to run good. Lots of people would get in on it. Even I would and I have a tractor. But buy a tractor that does not cost and arm and leg. *S
