What other kinds of "dry" metal chopsaws are there? The ones that are not abrasives. Milwaukee makes one that is fairly reasonable but I know there are others out there. Does Dewalt make one or some other industrial company?
Thanks for any input.

We have a DeWalt that we are very satified with. It was pretty expensive, and the blades can be in the $100 area, but they last quite a while. There are no sparks, and the metal isn't red hot when you get done cutting, however it makes little cuttings that seem to fly right in your face.

I was going to get rid of my Craftsman radial arm saw since I got a DeWalt sliding miter saw, it hasn't been used for years. But I saw some nice carbide blades at a industial hardware store so I'm gonna make it my metal saw now. Can't remember the brand of the blades tho.

I have a Makita 12-inch chop saw made for their 12-inch carbide metal cutting blade.

I bought mine slightly used. It is certainly cleaner (smoke wise) and less smelly than abrasive blades. However, mine does not cut well through the flat side of steel (e.g., small pieces of sheet metal laying horizontally, or side of a square tube), though it works very well when cutting perpendicular through the steel (eg. angle iron with the peak up).

I'm not sure if this is a characteristic of these blades, or if mine was dulled before I bought it (myself, I have been careful to treat it nicely).

Tim,

It does sound as if your blade might be slightly dull when compared to my experiences. Also remember that you want enough feed pressure to take chips so the blade doesn`t overheat on you, babying the cut will ruin the blade.

Yes dewalt makes a metal blade chopsaw for cutting steel. They work well with carbide tipped metal blades.
