I hate to even be on this subject, but I heard the Libertarian candidate for president on the radio this morning. His name is Wayne Allyn Root. rootforpresident.com Anybody heard this guy or heard of him? Unless I find out this guy is waiting for the mother ship to come and get him,he might be my new "guy". I'm sure gonna find out all I can about him. He's the first candidate I've heard this season that is saying what I want to hear. He doesn't seem to be the typical Libertarian "legalize drugs" type.

noncompos said: (quoted from post at 16:47:12 03/07/08) Just to be the devils advocate here for a minute, let's look at just one plank in Roots' platform:

"I support a Free Market Economy...capitalism works...I support...reduced gov't regulation..."

Geez, sounds wonderful...oh, wait:
Capitalism gave us 12 and 14 hr workdays, at subsistence wages, the 29 (and other) crashes, the Insull hearings, etc)...

Reduced regulation gave us the S&L debacle...and Enron...and now, the Housing/credit crunch (crash?)...and do we want to reduce the FDA?? (so you never know what's been left in or added to the food you and your kids are eating?)...or the FAA (leaving to the airlines how much time/money to spend on aircraft maintenance??

CONTROLLED Capitalism is wonderful (what a pity we can't agree on the controls!!).

Haven't read so much common sense in quite a while. Good on ya.

I understand the feelings but if you vote for someone with zero chance of winning you may as well stay home or write in your own name. As far as sending a message to whoever wins, the message will not get through and/or won't be cared about.

The choice is clear - you can hold your nose and vote for someone who will at least not surrender to our enemies (although he will do some other awful things) or you can vote for someone who will simply do the awful things plus surrender.

With the world in its current state of affairs it comes down to priorities - and if we don't win against the jihadists the rest won't really matter for long. It comes down to color - and I'll never vote for a candidate with a yellow streak.

I shouldn't do this, BUT. I am tired of voting for which ever candidate I think will hurt us the least. Why can't we get some one decent to run. Sirhc

Simply because anyone smart enough to do a good job as president also knows better than have anything to do with it.

The reason is any one who would be good for the job, you couldn't run fast enough to slap the job on thier back. One of the front runners "loaned" thier campain 5 million a while back, all that for a 4 year job that pay's 4,000,000 a year. Must have one heck of a retirement plan!!!!! :)

Sorry, I meant to say $400,000.

What I was try'n to say is that any one who will spend millions to get a job that pays a total of $1,600,000 is a crook or has something to prove.
Any one who is a good enough person and is smart enough for the job don't want.
Dave

Voted Libertarian last two elections.
Rather waste a vote on someone thats trying to standup and return America to the proud republic outlined in the constitution.Than vote for the idiot son of a politican (bush - gore)that failed at everything they ever did not funded by taxpayer.
Keep voting for the same clowns and wonder why nothings changing for the better.

It sends a message to those that get elected that we don't like them.

Sorry I never really understood the wasted vote fear.

Recon you're only throwin it away if you're a wholly owned subsidiary of one of the two major parties. I like what I see with this guy.

I took the time to read his stated beliefs...and I think I could vote for this man a LOT easier than any of the presumptive nominees of the major parties.

That's what I'm saying. I know either of the two major parties is gonna be a train wreck this year, and yes it might be throwing my vote away, but I'm not gonna have my fingerprints on either of the other two. If I vote for this guy,at least I can live with myself. It's a long time til November. We'll see.

I myself think a vote for the Libertarian "party" is just the same as not voting at all. Wont do any good whatsoever.

I'm sure he'll get a dozen or so votes from people who think they are proving something by voting for someone who will never get elected.
