One station we passed this morning had diesel for $3.75. Think I'm gonna look into that website. I have heard of folks manufacturing diesel from used cooking oil, now I'm real interested.

I trust myself to clean my biodiesel more than the commercial diesel companies. When I start making my own it will be tested and cleaned of byproduct before it hits the clean storage tank. Look at the tanks the gas stations have for diesel, I am sure they are full of crap and gunk that have built up for years. I can almost bet that the people having issues are not cleaning there Bio and just processing it and putting it in there tanks.
I have found a source for clean and dry WVO for 1.75 a gallon. So with the cost of the other chemicals and equipment my fuel will cost right around 2.45 a gallon. NC allows up to 300 or 400 gallons a year per person in household tax free.

I have a question. I fill my tank with fuel today at 1.99 and tomorrow the price goes to 3.29 a gallon. Is the government going to make me pay a capital gains tax on the 30 cents? Just joking I hope.

Most of the stations around here have been $3.75 for diesel for about a week now. The bad thing about is that we need to buy more to haul that $5.10 corn in

Try biodiesel.com. There are a multitude of home brew kits around. I used biodiesel made from soy in my boat. I never used it straight but usually it would end up to be less than 50-50. That Nissan 6 cyl engine had over 20000 hour on it and ran better all the time. ONly problem I had was when I tried Slick 50. It cleaned the engine so good that it doubled oil consumption until I burned several hundred gal of bunker oil from the shrimp docks, This was all before the biodiesel Never had a problem with soy diesel . The "making fuel from used cooking oil" deal is about like the "make big money buying tax sale properties" idea- it WAS a great deal about 10 years ago, before everybody caught on. Last tax sale I went to, there were about 75 people, bidding everything up far above the "bargain" level. If you're excited about the cooking oil deal, line up your supply before you do anything else. I think you'll find that all of it has long since been tied up.

Now if you want a REAL money-making idea, come up with a formula that will neutralize the red dye in off-road diesel!!

I don't know about Washington but your statement is dead wrong when you look in the Great Lakes region. I am in management with a company that owns 137 Burger Kings and about 40 Chilis restaurants, in 6 different states. We pay rendering companys to come in and pump out our used oil. I have researched the bio diesel conversion extensively with the idea of getting the oil free but the problem is our BK restaurants use a shortening that can not be converted. The oil from our Chilis could easily be used but the restuarants are so spread out it would not be feasible. I have as of yet not been able to convince the owners to switch BKs oil type like Mc Donalds has.

THEY JUST RAISED IT UP TO AROUND 3.29 for reg.

How about an extra .30 profit on what you allready have in the tank.

It's 3.59-3.79 here in mid Michigan. One of my best friends from back in our high school days is manufacturing soy bio diesel on a small scale. About 2000 gallons a week. So my brother told me anyway.

I've been a do it myselfer all my life, but I think this is one thing I would leave to the commercial companies. These new diesels are just too expensive for things like injecter pumps etc. Now those old diesel engines from the 30s would burn just about any thing, but these new computer ones are highly tuned.

Any one have any info on what the input cost increases this year are vs. prices for our crops. I'm starting to wish I would have prebought more diesel and kept ALL my chicken manure. Maybe my soil samples will be better than I expect and save me some $$. Hard to estimate how much fertilizer I should prebuy when I still need soil samples taken and have no history to go off.

Don't spend to much on the equipment to convert the cooking oil to bio diesel cause there ain't enough used cooking oil to go around.

I have a friend who is a mechanic and he has 2 or 3 diesel trucks out there now that were running homemade diesel. Now looks like they are in for new engines. Don't know if they did something wrong when making it or not but I have heard of alot of problems with it?

Took an injector pump to the repair shop last year, guys there were talking about a pump laying on the counter that was brought back for the 3rd time; homebrew fuel. they said the owner didn't mind, as he was experimenting, they admitted he was getting better.
