was raised in a Christian home but am not a devout member but love these jokes

In a small western conservative town, a new bar/tavern was preparing to open up for business. The local church started a campaign to block the bar from opening with petitions and prayers. Work progressed, however right up till the week before the grand opening, when a lightning strike hit the bar and it burned to the ground.

The church folks were rather smug in their outlook after that, till the bar owner sued the church on the grounds that the church was ultimately responsible for the demise of his building, either through direct or indirect actions such as prayers. The church vehemently denied all responsibility or any connection to the buildings demise in its reply to the court.

As the case made its way into court, the judge looked over the paperwork. At the hearing he commented, "I don't know how I'm going to decide this, but it appears from the paperwork, we have a bar owner that believes in the power of prayer, and an entire church congregation that doesn't!

That reminds me of that oft quoted remark "If there is a God, why do they have to put lightning conductors on churches?" Having said that, York Minster in England was struck by lightening in 1984 which resulted in a serious fire.

Our church got struck by lightning back in 1951. It only burned the steeple off and part of the roof.

It made me laugh. ----- ----This reverend was in the hospital giving one of his follwers his last rights, who was hooked up to all the machines and hoses. The patient could'nt talk but the reverend thought it very special when the man started to wave his hands very excited like. So the reverend picked up pace with him. The patient then grabbed a pen scribbled a note, and handed it to the Rev, who then put it in his pocket, and before he finished his sermon, the man died. A couple days later the reverend was doing his eulogy Saying what a great guy he was and he thought Of the note. He pulled it out and said this was his last words he read the note allowed It said [please stand aside, your on my air hose!!]
