Here's a game:

1. Pretend you have $5,000 to spend on a tractor.

2. Go to the photo ads and find something on the first or second page to buy. To make it fun, limit your choices to these pages only.

3. Share what you've chosen and why.

I'll let someone else start us off....

Welp! Your all out of luck. I just convinced all of em too sell their tractor's to me for a buck each. I'm taking the other $4900 down to the Florida Keys. See what kind of tractors they got down there.

I'd buy that first one that's on there now, the Allis 60 hp, w/loader. I've always liked that style of Allis.

Wow, $5000 doesnt get ya much does it! I would have to say the Cockshutt 1750 for $2800. There is no price on the Allis 7045, but I would lean towards a $5000 purchase, the infamous HTA caught my eye, but I am holding out for the more rare Super HTAD MFWD Hydro. Now that is a collector!

Probably the 135 Massey, or, the AR from Vern Otto and use the balance to hire a lawyer when he doesn"t deliver the tractor after I paid for it. ;)

That Vern Otto response was classic. This site is great because there are a lot of folks on here that will not be taken by Mr Otto now that we are aware. It has to be cutting into his profit margin. He may still rip some folks off, but there is a large contingent out there that knows his word is as good garbage.

Had a fella like that back home. Once the word got out, he had to go to ripping off people from out of the area. Lost what business he did have, and ruined it for his family members that were in honest pursuits. Can't act like that and think folks won't catch on.

Similarly, would anyone buy anything from a fella named Junior Otto from the same town? I sure wouldn't.

Just my $0,000.02 worth,

Aaron

I'll take the Ford 3000 Diesel! Excellent fuel economy with enough power to do anything a small farm will require.

My choice would be the JD-R. $5250.00. I'd throw in a shotgun. Neighbor had one when I was a kid and when I heard it comming, I'd run to the road just to watch it go by.....Awsome.

I want the 37 JD A on round spokes. It will match my 38 B really well. Its only $3700. Can I keep the rest of the money for fuel or do I have to give it back. Peavy

Good Game.
I'd have to take the AR. $3500 with enough left over to get it here.
I live here in the City and do keep a tractor around for excursions. But that would be the machine to drive to McDonalds for Saturday morning coffee.

My answer is none of them. Its no fun to buy them when they are running and in good to fair shape. Shoot I haven't got in a running tractor in a long time and the one I did I spent 100 hours on it to fix other problems. For the most part I buy them dead and fix them other wises its not any fun, plus I learn that much more about them so I can then pass on what I learn to you guys. LOL That and I save them from the scrap man by doing it this way

If I could beg another hundred dollars from you, I would go with the 170 AC. But the most practicle hp that I could choose might be the cockshutt 1750 for 2800.00. That would leave a little extra for the unforseen.

Kevin, You beat me to it....that's the one I'd want also....it could keep my TO-30 company. And it would probably cost about $500.00 dollars to get it here to Nebraska. Gary sure has some nice tractors in the photo ads, doesn't he? The paint on them always looks sharp and correct. I'll bet he has them running pretty good too. Tom

I got the IH 1066. I know he was asking $5600, but I am a fair negotiator.
I got it for $5000 plus because he liked me so much. He put in a new set of pistons,Sleeves and rebuilt the head.
Found that the 1066 was to big for my trailer. He trucked it up to me.
Is that cool or what?

Here is the one I'd buy. A nice Farmall M with new rear tires, 2 way valve, lightbar toolbox and very nice sheet metal. It runs excellent too. It is in Wisconsin and I will be picking up a F-20 tractor in Wisconsin in the Spring. I'd buy the M for $1850 and used the rest for fixing it up ;)

Well, I was tempted to say the Ford 640, as my grandpa has got a 631 with optional PTO (they're practically the same) and it is mighty handy. But my fake 5 grand goes to the MF 135. My uncle has one with a loader, and although I haven't used it very much personally, I know it gets used quite a bit.
