my "64" 706 has a new hiccup it has begun coming out of gear for no apparent reason. If i press the clutch pedal and idle down to nothing almost killing the engine it pops back into gear . or if it is coasting down a hill i would have to stop and repeat the process. any suggestion would be appreciated

Does it do this with the TA in high range, low range, or both ranges?

When the TA went out of our 1086, you would be letting the clutch out slowly and all of the sudden it would jump/lurch ahead with a bang.

When the TA went out of the 1256, low range became nuetral - no banging or anything and always stayed engaged when in high.

Most likely, the TA is failing, and needs to be replaced.

There are pressure checks and linkage adjustments that can be tried first.

I have worked on and/or replaced quite a number of them, but am not a "T/A" guru.

I would suggest posting over on the Farmall Board, and, if you are intending to work on it yourself, get an genuine IH factory service manual.
