I was just watching a German movie that took place here looks like just after WWII. Whatever the tractor was (could have been Lanz Bulldog or Hanomag) had to be cranked by hand. The steering wheel (with a section of the column) was slipped out and slipped into a hole on the side of the tractor and spun to start it. Then put back where it belonged to steer.

Just thought it was unique and wanted to share.

Dave

Was that a beer he pulled out from under the front of the tractor, and took a draw on, after he got it started? Looks like a man after my own heart!

One of the main reasons why in Bayern tractors are referred to as Bulldogs even today. :)

Same thing, just a little different model.

Funny thing since my dad was just telling me about exactly that model of tractor that he used for farming when young. Used the torch to heat it for an hour first, and then cranked it with the steering wheel and column. He said he almost lost his arms a few times during the cranking process if he didn"t time things just right.

That's interesting, different strokes for different folks I guess. A tractor I see every day is interesting I think. On TV Ch 3,Phoenix AZ on the Good Morning Arizona Show,a show regular named Dan who talks of his JD Lawn Tractor a lot is shown in a Drive by sitting on and acting like he is driving ,the back half of a Farmall ,maybe an "M" ,and the front half of the tractor is clearly late John Deere and it is painted Green. I know it is a far stretch as it clearly borders on a Cartoon but it is attention getting to a Tractor lover.
