Hey everyone,

I am looking to purchase a rebuildable Continental F-162 motor. The motor need not be complete, just in rebuildable condition (no connecting rods hanging out of the oil pan). Basically, I am looking for a good long block. I do not need carb, distributor, manifold, yadda, yadda. I have a Worthington that is currently running and working well but the motor is pretty tired. I"d like to stick a fresh one together to swap in.

I"m willing to travel to pick stuff up if the price is right!

Even if you don"t have one, but know a place to look, please fill me in!

Thanks,

Brian

Following on John S's comment re' the 162's front end being diferent in a forklift, one out of a welder COULD have a limited power range...as I recall, the gas engines in our welders ran in a pretty small range of rpms, either idling (no load) or at governed speed (welding), with very little in between. Timing/breathing could be so designed, where a tractor engine would be more "flexible"-develop power over a wider range of rpms. DON'T KNOW if this a difference with the 162/163.

The Continental F162 was also used in some tractors, Massey Harris 30, Cockshutt 540, And I think some of the later Massey Harris 101 Jrs. But like 135 mentioned there was a lot of them used in Lincoln welders. Hope you find a good one. Steve

Do a google or online search for Contiental engines or forklift rebuilders. There are some engine rebuilding companies and forklift reconditioning shops that have engines rebuilt ready to go if you can give them numbers off yours.

Be careful with one out of a forklift. The front ends on them are not like a "standard engine"

Thanks for the e-bay tip. It appears to be just what I am looking for although the starter position has me a bit worried. The starter appears to be down lower than the motor on My tractor. I'll have to investigate when I get home.

I'll also keep my eyes peeled for the welders. I'm not sure how to go about finding a scrap yard that would deal with them...but it's worth a shot.

Keep those cards and letters coming...ha!

Brian

There is a Continental F163 on Ebay right now. It's got about a day left. I think you could swap a 163 for that 162.

An older Lincoln SA 200 welder used a 162 if you found a wrecked welder, the engine might be OK. Dave
