LBSMJS, what panel or part of the tractor do I remove to check the hose (and manifold). I'm also still fighting a loader problem on a non-hydro 656.

Also, guys how do I check the pressure at the rear remote? I have the IT shop manual but didn't find that test in there. (I think I have an IH service manual at work but not at home for reference right now.)

Several posters have mentioned replacing the relief valve in other posts. Which relief valve? The one that the IT manual says is part of the power steering checks? The recommendation was to upgrade to the relief valve that was standard on the 686 if memory serves.

Thank you everyone for your help.

You can remove the top link cover, but I have had better luck removing IPTO assy. The hose is alot of the time split on the bottom side towards the front & Ican reach in & feel it with my hand.If the hose is split you need the unit out to put a new one on anyway. If the hose is OK then look up on the RH side above the differential, that is where the manifold is.Good luck.

To check the hose in question, park the tractor nose downhill and remove the 3 pt top link bracket. you should be able to see most if not all of the hose without draining the oil. The relief valve for the remotes is in a transfer block below and on the right side of the seat. This transfer block is bolted to the lift housing and has the remote valve(s) bolted to it. 1 1/8 (Ithink) hex head at about a 45 deg angle, stamped with a part # and 1600 PSI.

to check the outlet pressure just screw a pressure gauge in a coupler and then pull the lever and read the pressure reading.
