This cold damp weather has got my hips and knees killing me. I always get good experienced advice from you all, so what are you doing for arthrietus pain, I know I got it just can't spell it! currently I am taking 800 mg. of Ibuprophen a day, and usually that does the trick, but this winter has been something else.

Don't know about you guys further north in Michigan, but down here around Coldwater it was really slick. I managed to end up with one leg in the truck, one leg under the front wheel and both arms across the seat and door handle. Went in the house and took a Motrin, because I know what's coming in the morning.
Just a lot of rain and flooding now.
Paul

Just remember, ibuprofin wrecks your kidneys and Tylenol your liver, narcotics are addictive and you get tolerant to them.

My knees are shot, one from a cow back when I was in high school and the other from a farm accident in 06 and the two surgeries that followed. Best thing I have found it a good workout on a stationary bicycle.

My old retired dentist told me to use 2 advil and 2 tylenol for pain..It's supposed to go after pain from 2 different directions...He claimed it's as good as prescription meds...It does work....

Pain is something I have had to learn to live with since 1996 when I had my back surgery. Ya I take pills but they don't do much. I find a 6 pack of beer does the same things as any of the pills. Not the best way but I live with the pain and don't like pills so I grine and bear it

Hey Old,

Other than being old, it seems we have a couple of other things in common, i.e. back pain (I'm due to have surgery this Friday) and restoring a Case SC, although the SC is going to have to wait until I get my back straightned out. I'm on 40mg oxycodone/day which hardly puts a dent in it. (pain) I'm losing the use of my legs and my docs tell me surgery is my only option. I've tried everything else to no avail. The real down side of all this is that my retirement plans are really screwed up - don't think I'll be buying the yacht I'd planned on. I take it that you are disappointed with the outcome of your back surgery. How come? Now for the really important things: how is your SC coming along? I'm still in the "planning" stages with mine. It seems that just about every time I look at mine (which is just about all I'm able to do these days) I see something else I need to do and/or buy. The list gets longer every day. I used to be pretty damn good at fixing things, but this is beginning to be a challenge. Sitting for over 20 years has really done a number on this dude.

Now that I've bored all your guys to distraction with me problems I feel better. Later.

I know about the loose of a leg because of back problems. Before I had the surgery it was all I could do to use my left leg and to even get out of bed. Then after the surgery I was pushed to do some work that I had no business doing and doing that had left me disabled. So I'll say this. If you doctor say you can't lift 10 lbs then you can't lift 5lbs. He he says stay in bed other then going to the bathroom do so. I had the L-5-S-1 disk removed which is the last one in the back and yes it has caused problem since but at least I can walk now and do things at my own pace.
As far as the SC I'm done with it and its up for sale since I don't need it for any thing on the farm.

ya, lot of leg & back pain here also. Beer will usually get you past it enough to go to sleep & its natural. Now if it only tasted good.

I ahve degenerative joint disease in all the joints in both my legs an hips. While its not bad yet, it does hurt worse times than other. I have been able to keep going with Tylenol Athritis Strength. I can tell when its comeing so I take 2 at first then one at at time as I need them. Just not ready for the scripts yet, but know that by the time Im 50 Ill probably be on some heavy duty stuff.

I may have the same problem as you. Or something similar. I'm not even fifty yet but after years of living with pain I finally had my right hip replaced. I did not want to do it but it's been great. I didn't know life could be this good again. It's awesome. And it's only been 5 months since the operation. The procedure was not that difficult. In fact, a small price to pay. Until recently they did want to do a hip replacement on someone less that 60 but now they have material that should last me the rest of my life. I still need to get the left one replaced.

John. I have the same disease and at this point I have had both knees replaced and both shoulders and sometime in the next year of so I am going for hip replacement. The pain has been reduced greatly and I quit taking any pain medicine about a year ago because my stomach was a mess. The shoulders work better than the knees. I guess as the years go by nothing will completely erase the pain. i just decided to GET ON WITH LIFE and live with the pain. Hope you feel better soon. Henry

Well, this is not a cure all, but its what I do and don't have as much trouble as I did. Everyday I take 750mg of Black Cherry extract, a Glucosamine Chondroitin pill, and I stay off of eating red meat. I eat a slice of ham once a week and that is all the meat I eat. Now, I'm not saying this will cure you, but it has sure helped my knees. Was once so bad that I could barely walk, but not any more. I can even jog some now. It took about 6wks before I began to see improvement. HTH and Good Luck

I can't spell it right, but Gloucosimine and Chondroitoin work for me, started it years ago, my back would be so stiff in the morning I could bare get out of bed, much less stay in it. In about 2 weeks, no pain. Still take them, get to feeling good and think I don't need them, so I quit. Then in a month or so I start getting sore again, so I start takin em again. Try It. Chris

Check with a good doctor. There are new drugs and I am told that some are very good. He will try one at a time untill finding the right one. Wish I could take them..kidneys are down to 30 percent on one and I am not allowed ANY such pills. The trick is too keep your mind busy with any and every thing to stay off of the pain.

Yeah, right Randy - I know you're not on your duff very much! By the way, hope you didn't land on yours today. I didn't yet, but wrenched my back trying to stay vertical! Over 1/4" of ice here this AM, 1/2" of rain since morning.
