Up here in canada the cost of scrap has sky rocketed. Dealers say its China rebuilding into the modern world.Several bad guys have been killed trying to strip live old copper wire from hydro lines.Time to clean up the enviroment of those old autos.Just hope they leave our tractors alone.

I heard somewhere that if you burn the insulation off copper wiring that it falls into a lower grade of copper and not worth as much..Any truth to it??...How about sitting around some evening with a couple of cold brewskies and a utility knife..Sure beats re-runs on TV...Unless it's Catherine Willows of CSI or Abby of NCIS....

Most of the local scrap buyers around here will buy insulated wire "as is". They have machines to strip it. They'll dock you considerably for bringing in burnt wire. Better money for selling with insulation left on. State, county and local ordinance's against burning plastic anyway.

Yep getting to the point a Farmall H is almost worth more as scrap then it is in good running shape which is sad, very sad. Last I checked scrap was going for around $250 a ton which means a Farmall H is worth at least $250 just as scrap if not more

If you catch one, call out to him, have him walk toward you. When he giet about 20-30 feet shoot him. Shoot him good. He should not have come at you in such a threatening manner. No real explanation for it, he must have panicked when you caught him stealing. Just remember, you felt your life being threatened. One more out of the gene pool. Give one statment to police, never discuss it with anyone, ever. If police want to "go over" your statement, lawyer up and keep your mouth shut. This is the ONLY way to stop this kind of crime.

I friend of mine had two old trucks out behind his barn he only uses a few times a year . to get in hay & fire wood and such . went to start one the other day was dead, started checking , some one had cut all the wireing out of both trucks . What are we going to have to do to stop this . They went on my farm two years ago cut down 400' service cable "was live" to my camp site & even cut wiring out of picknick shead .

around here, seems like the only interest is in the "get rich quick" metals- aluminum, copper and lead. I have several auto repair shops, and can't hardly remove a bent aluminum wheel without someone at the door ready to pick it up...same with buckets of used wheel weights and battery cores. but tote off the brake drums and rotors? not on your life!
County condemned 6 houses last year to build a resevoir- everyone of them got broke into and stripped of copper plumbing and wiring. I'm reading that these jokers are being found electrocuted now, as they're trying to pull live wires and getting zapped in the process.

We had a couple of guys picked up in the wee hours recently here with a truck load of stolen aluminum and wiring taken right off a center pivot irrigation system in a farmer's field.

now, i've got a question. this is legit, not illegal. we just tore down an old barn at my parents old place and pulled all the wiring so we could burn the wood the barn was built out of (it was full of powder post beetles). legally, we weren't even supposed to burn the wood, which is stupid, but burning it sure as heck beats haulin the whole 90x80 100 year old barn to the dump unburned. What is an easy way to strip the insulation off the old wiring so we can take it in for scrap copper? again, this is not an illegal activity, perfectly legitimate.

Best way is with a sharp knife. Burning it can make it brittle(hard to pick up) or melt it. Some yards pay less for it burnt as well.

When you burn the barn throw the wiring on the fire and it will burn the insulation off. Easiest way I know to do it.
