Why rehash this topic again? I know many on here have bad feelings about Vern Otto. Justified or not, I do not know. If you say so, so be it. I am not calling anyone a liar. However, I don't want to be run down for my 2 cents worth either.
I have purchased a tractor from Vern. I had no clue who he was prior, and have not talked with him since. But, I sent him his money, drove to his place in Manitoba a few weeks later and picked up the tractor. My experience? The tractor was better than I had hoped, and my brother and I had a real nice visit with Mr. Otto in his shop. Truly an enjoyable trip! I have bought many other tractors from other guys that have been much worse than I expected, but that's the nature of this game. One man's description and opinion can be way different than another's. Again, this is not to put anyone down. This is not a pitch to make anyone look better than they truly are. It is merely my statement like many others have given.

I have bought 3 tractors at different times from him and never had any trouble at all with him. upon inspection after they arrived, one was exactly as described, one was a little worse than described, and one was much better than expected. When buying unseen tractors like that it doesn't matter how many questions are asked, there will always be something missed. There is a large amount of risk involved in doing such a transaction. I admit I was concerned about my tractors until they arrived. Not to insult those that are posting about this issue, but there are those who will never be happy no matter what happens.

I have never dealt with this gentleman, but I have a piece of advice that will help if you think you might be buying a tractor that the seller might now actually own. Most lending companies, and now even some individuals, will put a UCC on a piece of equipment. This is how they enforce their lien on the equipment until a debt for that piece of equipment or something else is paid off. You can search for these UCC's in most states with just a name, company name, or address even. It's a free search in almost all states as well. This will at least let you know if what you are buying may be subject to someone else's lien after you buy it!!

YES! This is a very bad thing, we represent a few companies that manufacture new equipment and they all bar code them. There is NO titles to equipment, so it is easy pickings for a crook that looking to make a buck. New problem has arose on financed equipment...A gut buys a new baler from us, pays 5% down finances the rest, never makes one payment, sold the item privately or on eBay, takes the money skips town. But he can only do this for so long unitl NO company will finace him. But the bad part is that the time you can get a judgment against him in court and report it to a credit agency is SO long that he already made several deals and basiclly stole the equipment.

That's nothing new. The big time jockeys around here wouldn't buy anything back in the 80s without checking at the courthouse for a lien. I remember Honest John Stamm bought a potato harvester at a local auction. It didn't have a lien, but there was a lawsuit against the manufacturer because a kid had gotten caught in it and the owner didn't have insurance. If memory serves me right,he left it sitting right there.

This guy's reputation is horrible, I've read dozens of negative reports about this guy, from what's been said he sells tractors that are not his , gets the money and goes out then to try and buy them. Ever notice how many he lists with 200 hrs on an overhaul? I seldom even look at an ad anymore when it says Manitoba Canada. Not to mention it is pretty hard to go after a guy in a foreign country, yes Canada is a foreign country.
