OK

Came down the the puter this morning. First thing I do every day in the winter is check my E-bay auctions.

I had three items ending today. One was my old 91 f150 which was supposed to end in the early eveing. Got a message that it had sold (I had a Buy it Now going also). I thought great:<) Then I opened the e-mail from the buyer. He wants to pay me extra & I pay the shipper etc <:((

I won't stop selling on e-bay this is the first time I have had that happen there and I have sold hundreds of items on e-bay with little problems. I have relisted and will file a non paying bidder when I can as per e-bays suggestion via live chat.

Just disgusts me that this could happen there and any time things like this happen the sellers rep seems to get a little tarnish through no fault on the sellers part.

Fortunatly I had read about the Nigerian thing right here on this site and I knew that the "buyer" was a crook.

Thanks for letting me vent and I only hope that I can help prevent someone else from falling victim to this.

jt

This is what happen to me on ebay in reply to big jt, 02-14-2008 23:06:48
About a month ago. I was bidding on a left front grill for a John A tractor. The bid got out of hand and went up super fast. Far more then I would pay for it.
Drop bid and ebay said it was sold. .. but then a few days past I got an email from this guy asking if I still wanted it! To email him and send him the money! Didn't happen that way. *S I figured he had a friend bid it way up on me and got stuck with it. Sure ticked me off! I got rid of his email and should have kept it for his name. Only thing that I can remember is he was saleing a lot of tractor stuff for a john deer.

You should have forwarded it to eBay, so they might stop him from bothering other people.

I wonder what would you have thought if things had gone down the way it happened to me.

IE you were high bidder, it had not met the reserve, someone pulls the BIN trigger 8 hours before auction end. As I said I relisted and sent a e-mail to the top three legit bidders explaining what happened. Would you consider that seller to be a crook.

Don't want to start a war but sometimes the sellers are honest and you get crooked buyers that make the seller look bad.

Folks lets not start a war here. If this turns ugly I will ask Kim to pull the thread that I started. Just want to warn someone else from falling victim to this scam.

Dont feel bad its happened at leat 4 times to me! And buyer not taking the responsability to accept their items. It was a tough 2 weeks for me. We sold a Ford 2N, the guy paid paypal, he came out looked at it, drove it, purchased a back blade and center link, mounted it on the tractor, he loaded it on his trailer, took it home, and didnt like like it. He NEVER said a word when he was here. My ad listed the parts that we put in it, said new battery, spark plugs ect. He complained thet the spark plugs had rust on them, no kidding I replied ...maybee because it was sitting on the lot for 2 months outside? Well it got bad, he complained to paypal. He claimed the tractor needed $750 in repairs, said the brakes didnt worke ect. I thought a while and replied to them if the brakes didnt work, he would have drove off his own trailer when he loaded it! So we decided to refund him if he returned the tractor back in its ORIGIONAL CONDITION. He returned it 1 week later- Filthy- I mean dirty. I took pics and sent them to ebay and paypal, also inspected the condition of the tractor for 1 day. He got a refund but it was not what he wanted. I suspect he needed a tractor for a task or project, used it and then wanted to return it and get his money back, like a rental store for free. There is NO protection for sellers. Watch yourself. The others are we sold a Case 310 Crawler on eBay, the guy two days later said he isnt paying for it and does not want it. So eBay is working on that. I also think the fees are out of control along with paypal. I have a eBay store for New Tractor Parts, I will NOT use paypal. By the time you have your listing fee, final value fee, paypal fee, the price on the part is below what I pay for it from the suppier. This is the only way I can sell and keep the price on parts down so everyone can enjoy a good deal. If there was something other than eBay I would be the second guy in line. DTURKE

Gary is right. With all the desk top publishing software it is easy to produce a very realistic looking check that"s not worth the paper its printed on. For large $ items, its a very good idea to state ALL checks must clear before buyer can take possession and must be for the amount of purchase only or accept Paypal/Bidpay only. There seems to be some funny business on Ebay lately. We buy a lot of tractors parts, manuals, etc. and we"re seeing numerous bidders with no history and it looks like all they"re doing is running the bid up. I"m seeing sellers state in their auctions they reserve the right to cancel bids for bidders with less than 10 for a history - another good idea. Sorry for your aggravation.

BidPay is no longer in business. PayPal is becoming so glitch ridden that I don't trust them anymore, although I still use them, but I do know of several sellers who have had their accounts frozen for no reason other than paypal just decided to do it.

I have signed up for Google checkout. So far it has proven to be glitch free, is much less costly to use than paypal, and the money is directly deposited into your bank account in 24 hours or less. The downside is that ebay will not allow Google checkout to be mentioned in your listings. The upside is that e-crater.com does allow Google, and there are no fees of any kind associated with e-crater. The agriculture and forestry category on e-crater is growing quickly.

The new changes to eBay are awful. They aren't going to hit up up front, they will be more deceitful and hit you on the backside when you aren't really looking.

I've had a few people that have given me a hard time about things and I have gotten a few bad feedback. You can always try and see if they are willing to withdraw the bad feedback if you withdraw yours. For the few bad transactions I have had though, I have had hundreds of good. Can't be perfect I guess.

There is a easy solution to this problem, I sell on ebay as well and have thought about this. The simple solution is that no item leaves your possesion without the funds clearing first. Make that statement on all your auctions when you list anything. I have got lines from people like this as well on hay sales, not worded the same but you could tell, emailed them back with the terms and have never heard another word, most times I mention the scammers and wish them all the pain and suffering in the world, don' reckon that kinda ticks them off do ya, lol. Hope so!

Except for I don't think you will know the funds are frozen until you try to transfer to your bank account. By then you have already purchased the postage, printed the label, and shipped. I think I will be transferring the money as quick as it shows up, and if it won't transfer, then nothing gets shipped.

I will still use e-bay. It is a situation of getting what you pay for. Yes the fees are on the high end but you reach buyers that you wouldn't any other way.

Case in point I also had a old outboard motor sell yesterday that I would have figured to be worth $50. As a course of the auction I found out it was worth over $400. What can I say yesterday was full of all sorts of ups and downs.

Lets keep things friendly. As I stated above I will ask Kim to pull the thread I started if things get ugly.

I guess ya'll finally catching on to what Ive been saying about Ebay right along. There is very little honesty there and I still believe that shill bidding is a common practice. I would rather buy with a stated price that trust the bidding on ebay. Who would pay almost 500 dollars for a set of Farmall H or M fenders when you can ghet a new set just like OEM for 235$. Figger it out Henry

I very seldom bid on anything on ebay. When I do, I place my maximum bid the first time, based on what I feel the item is worth. If someone, or some shill bidder, wants to up the bid, more power to him. I just bow out and move on to the next item.
