On my Case 1958 311 B, the wheel is in real bad shape. As I have tried to take it off to repair it as some susjested. It cracked more and parts of wheel cover plastic just busted off.
Tried a wheel puller but the wheel is rounded and the feet of puller will not grip far enough under wheel to hold.
Went to tractor shop and was told to hold lots of pressure on wheel in upward position and hit the cent nut hard. Did this and nothing happen but the arms of the wheel just bent upward to. :( So I have bought a die grinder and going to try and cut it in two around the base to split it open and off.
Will replace wheel soon as I can find the diamentor of rod and if it is spline or has a key in it. No one seems to know what it might be. Has anyone done this before? Any advice on what is about to take place? Thanks

Good information to me..thanks in reply to Larry59, 02-14-2008 19:51:14
So it is keyed.. that's what I needed to know. Hope I don't cut that key. I looked and could not tell what it was. Thanks Joe and all others that commented. This was important to me. Cold outside now. But going out in short time and try it again.

You can also try heating it if there isn't any plastic near the center of the steering wheel. I had a lever that I ended up having to cut though, even after heating several times and using PB blaster. Carefully cut it with a sawzall.

Try this method, it worked well for me. Old Jeeps are like old tractors in that they sat outside a lot. I used this method and you should have heard the noise that wheel made when it came off...sounded like a gun being fired. Good thing the nut was still partway on!

Soak in PB Blaster for a few hours, this stuff amazes me.
