How could you do that to that beautiful ol M ? This has to be true , I heard it myself from my first wife's cousin's brother that over heard a conversation from someone that heard about and knew it to be true .
You say you put the M in gear when you hauled it ? They say that is the worst thing you can do to a transmission ? All that rocking back & forth with out the oil circulating will wear the gears & bearing's out !
Next I suppose your gonna tell me you didn't even have a manual !

i think he is right . every time i haul mine the binder comes loose that is the reason we have to wire them to the chain . when the chain is that loose the tractor rocks back and forth. the gears and bearings do not get oil so it is wareing out them .

I think that other fellow is wrong too about blocking the tire with a block of wood. That will cause a rupture in the tire from the rocking back and forth. I know cause I did that once and 27 years later the tire had a blow out.

now where the H*** did you or someone else come up with that crock!?i have never in my years ever heard that. how can leaving a tractor in gear while on a trailer hurt the tranny? the whole "All that rocking back & forth with out the oil circulating will wear the gears & bearing's out !" don't even made sense. if the the tractor was chained down properly it wouldn't rock that much! then you just go blaming allan fer it! well why don't you just yell at everyone on the site fer it oo because just about everyone does the same durned thing!
how dare you!

What a crock !!!!! I always lock brakes down and put tractor in gear when hauling for extra safety. I've hauled tractors several years and many many miles and not one has ever been damaged. If you have one moving around enough to do damage while transporting it you better get it bound down before you kill yourself or someone else.

Mental note to self. Make sure when I post a picture of equipment on trailer, have it strapped on seven ways from Sunday.

Aw come on folks. Fear not that Allan would strap on a tractor to a trailer. Allen said himself hauling a tractor don't feel natural for him. I'm sure he wouldn't take a chance. How many hipocrites are on here. Done something dumb and regretted it. Read inbetween the lines when there was nothing to read. I'm sure I would catch H-E-Double L on here If I posted all the dumb things I've done. Give it a rest. Besides, if you think hard enough, you can think of something worse.

Have a good day.

JoshuaGA

P.S. Allan, I agree, hauling a tractor ain't natural. Hauled my Ford Workmaster across the county to helm my cousin get his John Deere 2355 that the clutch gave out in. Rode it on the trailer, bound it with two chains, and left it in gear. Better than a couple of neighbors that haul bulldozers and escavators without chains regurarly. So there.

No joke. I've done some dumb stuff.

Wasn't too long ago I was tellin' about solderin' on a gas tank full of gas. Geez, you shoulda seen all the crap I got!

I aint even told people on here about using too short a ladder on the side of my bin and fallin' off. I tried not to limp too bad in front of the fam, but I got caught and questioned.

This fall I built myself a little ham shack. Inside an old corn crib that's leaning and looks like you should throw a match at it. Room's only 7 foot square. I wired it up with 220VAC coming in. And there's no trip on it, so I wired it hot. Wires only sparked once, after that I took a break to calm down before I finished the job. Did I mention climbing all over 8 or 10 feet up with no harnesses to beef up the frame of the crib because I had to cut out its existing supports?

I split wood. It splits better when the wood is froze. But when it's froze there's a lot more times the pieces pop when they split and fly off the splitter! Try to watch out for your groin when that happens!

How about using an unlit propane bernzomatic torch in the air cleaner on a car to get it started? Easier on the engine than ether, starts engines quicker in cold 0-ish weather. But look out for the flash fire if you get a backfire!

But I do have some sense. I won't stand under a loader bucket - unless I have a ladder leaning against it and I'm climbing the ladder.

Geeze people. Enough is enough already!

No, I know ya didn't young Bud,

I don't sleep. So when I do get up from one of my rare naps, I'm always cranky as he!! anyway.

I ought to self-impose a rule that I never post until after the first pot of coffee. :>)

No harm done, I hope.

I've been screamed at by the best of 'em. Trouble is, I don't have sense enough to just shut up and go away. :>)

I guess if you are around long enough you learn something new i sure didnt know that a parked tractor wouldnt have any oil circulating would wear out bearings and gears just getting old i guess.

To avoid that I haul mine in neutral. And I don't want my brakes to get stuck so I don't set them. Oh and a chain might mark your paint up so I use some of momma's yarn to tie it down and put a 2x4 block in front of and behind the wheels. You guys better pray you never meet me comeing down the hi way.... If pulling a plow for 60 years hasn't put a little where on your tranny I wouldn't loose any sleep over a little rocking back and forth.

PAUL would that be the yarn for those lifetime socks she sells. Yes i locked my brakes once and they are still stuck so i just added casters so the rear wheels arent touching the ground and now my tractor is a trailer only trouble is doesent haul very much but it sure is different.

All this "discussion" reminds me of the way my dad described a horse show. "A bunch of horses showing their arses to a bunch of horses arses". Keep up the good work. You have many friends on here.

It's best to put the tractor in reverse. That way if you have to stop in a hurry, it will roll backwards instead of into the back of the pick up. Dave
