Well if Allan is messing with us, I sure hope he keeps it up.

Mightbe, I can not imagine why you'd be upset that he posts pictures. I for one enjoy all of the pictures posted here and appreciate the time folks take to share them.

Aww come on fellas! I've been on this board for near five years now. I've watched Allen build his fleet. He carries a camera with him and posts lots of pictures on here because we have asked him to. Many of us look forward to his posts. It is always a treat to see what he is up to now and the progress he is making on his latest project. It's been like going over to a buddy's shop and shooting the bull while inspecting his latest project. It doesn't matter about his methods. I really don't think he is trying to shine on like he has a pot of money to burn. True, I fail to see the fiscal sense of some of his endeavors. He has come from a very low place in his life to a point that he can reclaim some of what he lost. If he is able to afford to do what he does, why not??? Who are we to question what he does?? I only wish that I had half the ambition that he has. I hope that he isn't going to go away. Would be loosing a good friend even though we have never met. If you haven't followed Allen's posts over the last several years, just sit back and see what happens before you shoot off some snide remark. If any of you have projects going on, or have adventures to share, you are just as free to post them here as Allen is. Maybe if folks would go out and do something worth writing about and share it on here, there would be less space and interest wasted on squabbling amongst ourselves. Better stop now while I'm still ahead.

Ya know, I never even realized it did'nt have chains on until I saw the posts with all the whining. I just like to see the pics so much, I had to reread Allen's post to see what the fuss was about. Keep posting Allen!

Ya know, I would expect complaints about off topic things that get a bit out of hand, I myself have made replies and main posts in the past that I probably shouldnt have. I state what I beleive and sometimes I am the one that shouldn't have said "that statement", but these days people are getting put down for posting "right on the topic" post. Allan, pics and tales of his days are like reading the sunday paper I and many enjoy it. Appears this forum is becoming increasingly "PC". We need humer, we need respectful opinions, and we need request's for help, however "simple" they are. I love this forum and most people are great, but as I am sure some of the folks that have been on here a while will agree that the more people we get on here that are rude and sarcastic, the less new "good people" we keep, and more "good people" regulars we lose, and with them we all lose a wealth of information. Well, I got new birds coming so I am gonna go make a last minute barn inspection, talk to the cows, feed the calves, pray that the wind dies down and the 544D starts. You all have a great day.

Well Actually, there's more to the story than meets the eye.

Had just put the frontend on the tractor and the toe-in isn't quite right. I've still got to spread 'er out a little to allow those tie rods to adjust properly (they bottom out).

Upshot is that this makes the tractor "dart" from side to side unexpectantly. It just "shoots" one way or another out of the blue. Whichever tire gets the best traction, that's the direction it will "bite".

It's 10° and I'm frozen. Can't feel my fingers anymore. Carb is icing and the idle is "flaring" up and down. Now, add in the fact that one brake doesn't work at all. Zip. Nada. Absolutely nothing there.

M has a quick low gear and I've got 'er running as slow as possible and as smooth as I can muster, but I gotta keep playing with that throttle to keep it running; to keep it "smooth" as I can.

Truck and trailer are setting on 8" of glass ice (ice everywhere here).

Start up the ramps, tractor is bucking forward and back; lurching left and right. I've got a deathgrip on that steering wheel and trying to steer with that one good brake.

Now, the rears are filled with fluid and they start to have a mind of their own as far as the inertia/sloshing goes. Truck and trailer is sliding forward a foot then back again on that slick ice.

Meanwhile, every time I hit the brake trying to steer, the darned trailer wants to do a "mini jackknife". Front of the gooseneck is literally swinging back and forth sliding the pickup tires sideways on the ice.

This isn't working and I'm gonna end up coming down off the trailer the hard way for sure. It's coldern' Billy He!!, but I'm sweating for some reason.

Somehow, someway I get it loaded. It's on there and I hit the kill switch. Everything stops, everything is now quiet. Crawl down off that outfit shakin' like a leaf.

Buckle it up and cinch 'er down.

15 miles later, I have to repeat the whole darned process going the other direction, then get that cold-ridin' beast up into the hills, so's I can thaw out.

Yank the chains and take time to take a couple of pictures for my "friends" on YT Mag.

Run that trailer back out to the farm and park it.

Oh, and about that post the other day?

Don't really care 6 eggs worth what you think from the comfort of your easy chair while playin' with your little mouse. Have another sip of your soft drink and calm down.

The tractor is in the shop and that's all I care.

Allan

Boy there sure are alot more people with out a sense of humor than i thought there was.
Allen got me to post a reply, but not in ANGER as some of you have.
Allen seems to me to be a good ole boy that had a little fun and got some of us, wasnt anyone made a fool of by him, as TGIN said, posters made fools of themselves. This is an anonymous site, no one made you reply to allen, no one made you read it, so if you typed the letters you made the fool of yourself.

Allen pulled the prank, allen got you and me, now that I know what happened it was funny, he got me. He got you, so grow up and shut up.

I will be the first one to admit,I jumped to conclusions, I should have known better than to think Allen would do that. But I do have to agree with Mr. MightBe down there. Im not new here, Ive been here longer than than the ones trying to blame the "newbies" on the forum, so dont even go there with me.I have been here when your beloved Allen was a newbie, and so were you! If you go back and read the thread, you will see why it got my teper up, and hopefully understand why I said what I said.Did I jump to cinclusions, YES, Im not denying that, and Allen, for that I appologize. I think this was done in poor taste, and judgement, and for that I will NOT appologize, this is just my opinion, and the opinions of others who dont want to get in the middle of it.

I think Allan drove an important point home. This place has become full of people right willing to criticize for even a "perceived" sin. As long as there is anonimity cowards are more than willing to throw stones. Unless one wants to watch a fight I can see very little reason to post an opinion anywhere on here. To bad too because it used to be a great place to hang out. It is full of bullies and like most bullies they are cowards.

As I have stated before, People on this forum eat their own. I am not around here much anymore for the very reason that post got out of hand.

Thank you Allan for hanging up the mirror.

If anyone on here thought that Allen or anyone else would haul a tractor 15 mies or 15 feet on a public road at 60 mph without tie downs I would hope those persons would not engage in any type of hauling. We all have made assumptions that people know we are joking about certain obvious acts. Granted not all of us have the same sense of humor as others. I have jacked many things up with a bottle jack, some have fallen. One must use their common sense when working in less than desireable situations ( do not crawl under anything not held up by solid matter) however you can safely work beside things. Stay on your feet, have a "what if plan", beaware of what you are doing.I like auto racing but common sense tells me not to be racing like they do on TV. Lastly by all means if you are doing something that seems or feels unsafe to you, no matter what others have said or done, Do Not Do It. I enjoy Allen's photos and comments on this board I wish I could get as many things done as he does.

You haven't been paying attention. He hauled it home using old horse hackamore rope. Just as good in gear and the brakes locked. David.

Allen has a problem. But I dont like it when he made a fool out of a lot of serious posters. He carrys a camera every where he goes, either to make us think he is on easy street or his ego has got to much. For someone to show us a tractor
with no tie downs along a highway and indicate that he put it in gear and locked the brakes is just a way of iritating a lot of posters, and sits backs a laughs at alot of decent people. Allen knows a lot about a lot of different things, but that doesnt mean that the rest of us dont know anything. Just like a doctor, he can replace a heart or do something that we can not do but he cant check the air in a tire. In other words ever one is specialized in their field. I sure hope he doesnt do it again for his sake and for his type of fun. I seriously think he needs to apologize to all the good folk. Thanks

I have two engines for it ready to go. I just have to decide which to use. I am having trouble finding a reasonable steering column from an early 40s Ford truck. So... It doesn't look much different but I like to amass parts before I cmomit to a job. I don't like to get stuck half way and just have a hulk in the way. In My opinion it is looking good. To any one else. It is another piece of rusty ustabe :? )

Jeez ma geez it was a JOKE, can't you people see yourselfs. Before you jump to conclusions and start typing just wait a little while and,I know this is hard, THINK.

Allan did`nt make a fool out of anybody , you all did it to yourselfs . You all jumped him right off the bat without knowing the facts and kept getting each others panties in a knot . It was`nt till mid stream that Allan thought he`d have a little fun , he just agreed with what had already had been said . Most all of us knew what was going on .
