Slow here in central PA at the CAT truck engine shop. Nobody has money to fix'em even if they do break. OH well. The new 07 engines have there own regeneration problems. Sure is neat to see trucks with 80k miles and the stacks clean as the day they were put on. Yep, the government at work!

Things slowed down drastically at the dealership the first part of November...and by mid-January I was laid off "until business picks back up."

Not holdin' my breath that it'll be anytime soon, either.

Bucking the trend up here. Work supplying new homes with millwork and windows. Been pretty busy but than the only houses that are being built are the million plus mansions. Most lumber yards are dead in the water. Still have time to post when at work tho.

Been VERY slow here in Ohio at the car dealer I work at. Body shop has the most work.

I did pick me up a JD 445 garden tractor project. Hope to get it going and resell in the spring.

I work as an independent contractor inspecting real estate properties for insurance companies before the insurance company writes or renews a policy on the property.

This is always a slow time of the year, and with the housing slump, the bottom kind of dropped out of the inspections. I do auto body work on the side in my shop on the farm, and was just lining up a bunch of that when an insurance company I once worked for as a Claims Adjuster/Claims Analyst emailed me and asked if I was in a position to come back to work for awhile. Said I could work a flexible enough schedule to keep ahead of my inspections. The timing was good, the price was right, and I couldn't turn them down. They even offered me a choice office compared to the one I had last time I worked for them.

I farm for a living and the work is the same all the time only the pay changes according to how much I can sell my products for, you boys in the business sector might want to take that approach in your job to help the people you work for get thru the coming tough times ahead.

J,

I work a part-time job off the farm doing accounting. I could easily work 25 hrs. a day if I wanted to. This time of year is a killer every year, and this year is no different.

Construction, VERY slow, Local Lumber Yard is at a stand still. Weather is bad, but spring work is the slowest since I started 64 or 65. Any building seems you need a crew of 45 - 50. Not going there, as I have to much problems with a small crew. Large corperate farms are taking over, shoving the small guys out, grain farming is better than the hastles of livestock.

It's slow in the electrical field right now. Right now we have a job in CO. It's an 11 hour drive one way. We are working with an architure company from MN. When they opened bids for the job no local people wanted the job. At least it's work...it should pick up later this year.

Folks that have work or jobs are lucky.. Things are slow in all the manufacturing business here.. I sure miss the good old days when things were made in the USA.

Things are real slow here in Detroit. Our schedules keep going down, we are only running 1 assembly shift, and we have partial layoffs now. As for construction, the last independent lumber yard in my county just closed up. Only Lowes and HD now. I haven't seen any new homes being built. And this is in a county that was the fastest growing in the state. I think the total for new home construction was under 150 units. 5 years ago, it was several thousand per year.

Yeah, I am going to be slow, but it"s not for lack of things to do. I work in a small machine shop that makes things for a automotive light supplier. We have a lot to do, but I am working faster than we can get material into the shop. We should get a shipment of aluminum late this week, and am expecting to be on overtime next week.

The stupid politicians can't seem to understand why work is slowing down, why business are folding, nobody hiring, and unemployment sky-high! Its the great sucking sound of NAFTA! All of the manufacturing jobs are going to Mexico, or China, and our workers are left to starve! Like Lee Iacocca said one time: You'll hear a giant "sucking sound" if they pass the NAFTA bill! Listen---can you hear it??? I can. And now, i read where, in California, any diesel engine, be it a hiway truck, or a farm tractor, etc., if it is older than 5 years, it won't be allowed to be run in Calif. Progress: Can we afford it?

It is the oldest story of hwen they tell you how GREAT it is going to be, the opposiite is true.
When they came out with nafta they were also busy shutting down the working man of this counrty with right to work organizations and such.
Sad to see this great country being sold by the politiicans.
But then, they weren;t eVER the ones who lost blood to keep us safe!
Gotta get back to American made!!!!! !!
