Hardly anybody has time or patience to unstick a motor. If you want to work on it,you want to work on it now.Maybe you can get lucky and find one that you can get un stuck before your patience runs out, maybe not.It takes a couple of weeks usually at least, and thats if its not stuck real bad.I think one that might work on a motor thats stuck bad is,clean as much rust as you can off of the cylinder walls that you can.Get it clean as you can on the bottom of the cylinder walls.Find or make a pipe that fits just inside the cylinder then I would weld a plate in it to make it solid. Then rig a way to put a hydraulic jack on it and I would soak it with penetrating oil, atf, lucas, marvel, whatever, maybe even burn some of it right on top,not getting it real hot,on all the cylinders. Then after all that put a little pressure on it.If it wont move then, take the crank out, push one at a time. They still might break if its stuck real bad.You would want that to be a real close fit to the piston and make it where it couldnt get down between the piston and block,if that happened it would be a big problem, thats why I would weld a plate inside to keep that from happening.

trucker 40-,you are right-on. had an old 9n engine that sit outside for who knows how long with the head off. just played with this thing with differant soaks-no hurry. no where to use it--right combination of soaks-heat-vibration-big hammer will bring it loose--just depends on at what point you want it to happen--paul

The best thing to use to get your motors loose is to put PB Blaster/or Brake fluid in the cylinders. It works almost every time for me.

Andy.

Fill all cylinders with favorite penitrant. Then knock the porcilin off a spark plug and drill and tap for greese zerk. Then fill greese gun with ATF and pump until you bend the handle.

Do yourself a big favor and remove the spark plugs and get a good lite that will show so you can see the cyclinder walls. Now if they are thick with rust and you cant see any shine on the wall its junk and the chance of unsticking is nill. I got a F-20 loose as the walls looked great by putting a chain over the wheel and pulling. Front end came up then slowly went down and with lube i had in it turned over ok. Now i just tore two B blocks down that you could have soaked for years and they would have never let loose. Took a band saw and split the sleeves to break the sleeve to salvage the piston and rod.

I do that all the time. A lot depends on why there stuck. If its from water in the exhaust then its not easy and may not happen with out a complete rebuild. If its just from sitting thats a different story and tranny fluid works well. I have probably 20 plus that in the last couple years I have popped free and most I haven't even had the head off and they run well.

As you said, if it's from water in the exhaust, a rebuild is often necessary. I agree ATF is often the perfect remedy for stuck engines and other mechanisms.

I'm just curious Old, how many inches of rain (rain equivelant) do you get a year? The 30+ inches we get up here clearly contributes to many abandoned tractor engines being stuck.

In Missouri its 30-35 inches a year most years. And then the fun weather we have also causes problems. Yesterday it was 74 out and today its pouring cats and dogs and around 35 out. They say its going to snow tonight

I think old has stock in a "tranny fluid" company the way he pushes the stuff. Old, do you buy that by the barrel or train car load?

Most of the time by the gal. But have been known to buy a 5 gal. bucket at times. Been trying to get hold of a place that rebuilds trannys and thinking about get used stuff and then filter it and give it a try

hello ryan; you can go to archives for a lot of ideas; my favorite advice is give it a lot of time. had someone ask me that same question lately, i told them to fill cyls with ----& let it soak. 12 hrs later they rolled engine, but sleeves moved with pistons,BUT it was enough to disconnect rods & put alum piston/rod in 30t press & remove from liner---press won-- good luck---

I've had to "unstick" many over the years. Tranny fluid is the ticket...

I'm sure others are wondering how are they stuck engine or in a field but in the case the engine is stuck thats a can of worms on here seems everyone has their favorite method.I have never had to unstick one but I would probably use some sort of penetrating oil or pick the one that I am sure you will receive that you think makes the most sense to you

There are a gazillion methods or mixtures to free an engine: coca cola (no joke), diesel fuel, ATF, CLR (don't let sit long it will eat the aluminum), among other things.
