Update on my trailer and the furniture

If you guys will remember, last weekend my trailer got hit while I was backing into the driveway to unload some furniture.

I finally got the pictures online, and my dad's property insurance is going to cover the trailer and the furniture. I still have to fight the ticket, but court isn't until March so I've got some time yet.

Turns out the trailer took more of a hit than I thought. The tounge is bent and it actually went under the bumper of my truck and let the trailer hit my right rear quarter panel. Not devestating news right there though, the truck is just a huge pile of rust.

Gee, your truck doesn't look that bad! Does it still run and drive? My 91 Ranger had rust that bad, but, with some ingenious patching and a few 1/4 panel repair panels, at least now it looks lots better than it did! As for the trailer--well--you might find the frame is twisted. And, fer sure, yer gonna need some new side slats and probably a floor, and definitely a hitch replacement. They are readily available, at camper sales places, and parts stores. And, while on the subject, and related to trailer towing--when was the last time you checked the tire pressures, and made sure all of the lights were working?

Well the tires I'll admit I don't check all that often, but if I'm going on a trip that's more than 20 miles I'll check before I leave. I re-wired the lights this past summer so they were all good before it got hit.

I'm sure the frame probably is twisted a little bit, but hopefully it'll still trail decent when going down the road. I'm gonna cut the tounge off and replace the whole thing I think, and probably tear all the wood off and then have it re-painted while I'm at it. I'm thinking about making a new tailgate out of all steel that folds in half, and solid enough to be a ramp to drive stuff onto it.

It really was a great trailer, so I'll be pretty disapointed if it doesn't trail right anymore. Before I could hardly tell it was back there. It's got torsion springs, so it didn't bounce like one with leaf springs under it.

Your trailer might be OK. The tongue has no additional bracing, so it might be all that got bent. The actual trailer part probably rolled a little on the wheels which would help lesson damage to it. The trailer frame is wider and also has more bracing than the tongue. Dave
