I may have made a bad mistake. I have a Marval carb with a anti dieseling valve on it. I attempted to measure the threads pitch on the male part of the thread with a thread pitch gauge. It was bad light, bad eyes and it looked like 1/4-28. Tap went in really easy but it looked like it was taking some iron out with it. Had my daughter look at the thread pitch in better light and now it looks like 40 TPI not 28 TPI. I cannot find a 40 TPI bolt or tap. How can I straighten this mess out?
Thanks

Thanks for the replies. I went to the sites and found the taps I need. I just hope I did not cut to much out to straighten this out again.

That tap is the same one you need to clean the idle and load needle threads on a DLTX carburetor. Not real easy to find, but a local madhine shop can order one for you.

I have gone to my local gunsmith & borrowed his 1/4-40 tap. It is an extra fine thread series.

Special thread taps section at mscdirect.com or mcmaster.com or Wholesale as said. You might watch online ads or look at salvage yards and find another parts carb for another bowl if it's messed up bad.

I've not seen 1/4-40 hardware. That doesn't mean there isn't some out there. If you've tapped it for 1/4-28 why not use a machine screw that is 1/4-28.
