We had a little bit of a butt puckering experience down in the woods with the 4 day old loader tractor by not having any fluid in the tires the other day. So of course now we are looking to fill the tires on this one. I checked on rim guard the beet juice stuff avaliable locally for 3 dollars a gallon if we buy it in bulk and pump it in ourselves. Windshield washer fluid is 2.00 a gallon in bulk.

Leaning toward the rim guard cause of the extra weight and no corrosion worries. Putting tubes in for calcium will cost about as much as the rim guard alone and I have the corrosion issues so calcium is out.

Has anyone used the rim guard themselves? Anyone have anything bad to say about it? Planning on putting it in tubeless tires. I am a little concerned about the washer fluid cause of the methanol in it attacking the rubber tires is this a valid concern or am I overreacting?

The way I do my math, 8 lbs washer fluid at $2 would cost 25 cents per pound. A gallon of Rimguard at 11 pounds at $3 would cost 28 cents per pound. Not really too much difference per pound. I must be too cheap. I sell it for $2.50 per gallon.

I have RIM Gard in two tractors. I live in northern Michigan and it works great. We spilled some on my lawn and couldn't see any effect at all.

I have always liked the idea of having the weight low to the ground for a lower center of gravity.

I personally prefer cast weights. Up front cost may be a little higher. But no mess, and some day when you get a flat you won't have the fluid to deal with. I think weights perform a little better too. that's just me though. Steve

If you use the chart in the post a few down for reference you can spend up to about $50 a circle for IH wheel weights and get the same amount of ballast as rim guard at $3/gallon and you won't need a pump. Lee

There is at least one local New Holland dealer by me that won't let a tractor with a loader go out the door without fluid in the tires. This is VERY wise as alot of the owners will put it off until too late ! I think all the other dealers around here don't care they just sell them. They use washer fluid last I knew.
