I have never done a video before. So here goes. This guy did a fairly straightforward resto on a Model A. The car came from South America and was in pretty bad shape. The car owner is a Rally champion and had the car built with a Cosworth engine, rally tranny, and a toyota rally rear end. It has a box that cuts evey third spark so the engine sounds like genuine Henry, til he flips the switch a drops the hammer. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I waited 21 years to buy the model A I have. Would not trade it for anything. At least his car looks old. Interesting spoke wheels. Wife & I don't fit so good in the old Ford anymore. Folks a few years back seem to be smaller in those days. Before McDonalds I guess.

My happiest 2 days when I owned a Model A Ford was when I got it and when I saw it leaving. Nothing but misery between those 2 days though!

I was most impressed with the fact he had the spoked wheels cast out of aluminum and painted to look like wood Link

The sound of that thing is awesome. Sounds like a European roadster.

Nothing wrong with experimenting and building things, but why do people feel the need to bastardize classic vehicles? Do they not realize that they quit making those cars 80 years ago?

Pictures indicate that there was not much left and most had to be remade. I do not think he destroyed anything.

Folks give my old man he11 for building a hot rod out of a 55 T-bird. I explain that he did not. The man that started the project built a 55 T-bird out of three 55's. One of them was a hacked up drag car. The other two were complete junk. The rest was aftermarket parts. He basically made a 55 T-bird out of a scrap pile. A $15K scrap pile, but a scrap pile nonetheless.

I disagree with the fella that took a sanitary 67 Chevelle w/20K in showroom stock condition and built a hot rod. He destroyed something. This fella here and my old man did not. But on the other hand, it was his Chevelle...

Wow. That looks really good. I can definitely appreciate the refurbished old cars. Is that alternator stock? Doesn't seem like it would be stock, but it looks just fine on there, really fits. That interior looks pretty good too, they didn't come like, did they? With the bucket seats? Oh, well, it looks good, not too ridiculous.

At least no one felt the need to throw it in the crusher. I don't think it would like being called a b*****d, its Daddy's name is Henry.

I agree, however, maybe this person didn't have much of a car to begin with. Some of these things are absolute miracles that the sheetmetal is even salvaged.

Funny you mention the sheet-metal since original A metal is much harder to find than the hard mechancal parts.

Last summer, I bought eight Model As that were sitting in a woods and swamp. Many had trees growing through them. The guy that owned them is 92 years old. He told me he used to run a tractor and auto repair shop. Year's back many customers when short on money would pay their bills with Model Ts or As. He told me he dug several large holes in his property and buried many - complete with original sheet metal - most around the WWII era. I'm still wondering if any would be salvageable if dug up. I bought all the "above-ground" As for $50 each and it was a lot of work to retrieve them. I had to cut several large white pine trees and drag cutting torches down through the mud. All I wanted was the transmissions (many tractors use them OEM), but it was an "all or nothing" deal - he wanted them removed.

I might be missing something here, and I'm very curious. WHY would he BURY cars??!!! If he didn't want them why didn't he just give them up to the war effort for scrap? I'm confused...I are...I are.

I suppose he didn't want to be bothered. If he doesn't croak before I see him again, I'll ask.

We're in a rural area and I suspect it's wasn't worth trucking the scrap long distance. Fuel was scarce too - and how much fuel would of been used to truck heavy scrap 50 - 100 miles away?
Even now, if I sell scrap within a 50 mile radius, it only brings half what does 100 miles away.

The Model As and Ts were very popular for making home-made farm equipment. This guy made many rigs he calls "buck rakes" from the As. He also made big winches from TT rears - I've got one here. He told me the sheet-metal was basically useless and he'd bury it to get it out of his way.

There are still many old farms around here have huge piles of old steel dating back to the 1930s, although they are disappearing due to scrap-prices being high now - and development moving in.

Model A was sort of my favorite car until I drove one about 18 years ago. It was sold when I got there but I drove it anyhow. Little old seat was no match for 250 lbs. Steering worse than most tractors. Did not know double clutching or crunching gears was necessary. Fun for couple of blocks but a lot of love was lost. Never got a chance to buy another at low price $3500. Tractors more fun anyhow. Someday, maybe, if my back was better.

If you had been used to driving a Model T, and then moved up to a Model A, you'd think you'd died and gone to heaven. It's all relative.
