Well its about 15-20 out right not. I went to start my Oliver S88 and it started and died and will not start again. I then tried an 8N ford thats also 12 volts and it will not start. Well just for the heck of it I tried the Case SC which is still 6 volts and it turned slow but after a few turns started right up and just purred. So the morale of the story is this. If every thing is as it should be a tractor will start up on 6 volts even when cold so why switch to 12 volts unless you just have to because of other problems

Hey Old
You just found out that 2 6V batteries will give you more amps then a 12 volt single. In extreme weather the 6 volt system as you have found out is better. They don't built like they uesd to!
Guido.

Moisture? I know it gets melty and humid down there a little more often than up here.

Used my 1937 JD B to haul wood after work today. Not too cold here, about 25F, but it started on the third pull. Need to have a good clean, well adjusted carb & hot mag, timed right. Makes starting a lot easier in cold weather.

That was one thing I thought those old Olivers always did well was start, especially in the cold. If your's aren't starting, think about getting a new battery, rebuilding the starter, or both. I agree with rrlund, here in Michigan you have to have at least one that will start in the winter to move some snow.

Get this... I ran an original late model 12 volt farmall cub battery down to nothing trying to start it. What I did next was grab the handcrank from an older one, and she started right up.

It"s funny. I just use the hand crank in the cold. Pops right off.

WOW,won't start at 15-20? Those Ozark Olivers must not be as tough as they are here in Michigan. My 77 started fine at -2 Sunday morning. :)

Most of the time it starts right up no matter how warm or cold but today all it did was fire up and die. Just went out a little bit ago and get it started up and now the Case will not start. Guess they are jelois of each other

I agree. If it came with 6v, leave it 6v. If it won't start with 6v, fix it.

Those old casees were easy to start with a hand crank. Two flips to choke and third to run. Mag with an inpluse helps too.
