Hi Joe,

Stand outside and look west about 10miles. That's me flapping my arms in morse code on the mountain :)

My son is also allegic to milk and milk products ie; ice creame will give him a ear infection that will make him crawl on the floor for a couple weeks as he won't have any type of balance.

A ENT Doc in CG was going to gut his ear at 12yo but then my wife seen a PBS show on how kids with cronic ear infections should not use any milk products. We emptyed the refer that night of anything made with milk and 6mths latter he was infection free.

Two years latter he tried a bowl of ice creame and right back down to crawling on the carpet. He's in his 30's now and still can't eat ice creame.

People who say they wished they could stop smoking but can't simply haven't had the proper motivation.

When I met my wife in 1964, I was smoking two packs a day. On our second date, my wife owned up to it that she's allergic to tobacco smoke, among other allergies. It sounds dramatic, but when she told me that, I took a pack of cigarettes out of my shirt pocket, threw them into a trash can, and haven't touched one since. We've been married 42 years.

Thanks for the advice, T_Bone. I'll try running it by him either when he comes to visit in about a month or maybe over the summer when I'm home.

For the diet deal, I found out I am allergic to Wheat, Dairy and Eggs! I guess when you are allergic to them your body retains water to fight the toxicity to your system. I have lost 32 pounds since "Trying to Avoid" that stuff. I have also not eaten much of anything fried save for chips. Another tip, eat only until you dont feel hungry anymore!

A while ago we had an incident here. Three teens transporting a 5th wheeler load of straw with dad"s almost new pickup. Somehow the straw caught on fire. You can write the end of that story!

I was following a cop one night. In front of the cop was another car. the guy in front of the cop tossed out a cigiret, which showered a bunch of red sparks on the road. There was another bunch of red lights as the cop pulled over the driver. Ever say where was a cop when you needed one. stan

Didn't realy intend to start a rant against smoking, all though I agree with all of you. My point was that I can't beleive that any one would throw a cigirett out the car window any more. Forest fires, grass fires, people killed. Here in Colordo its a real No, no. Would be pretty hard for me to hire a smoker for farm work. Kenny

Cigarettes are a terrible thing... I know people who would NEVER throw any trash out the window of their car, but will let a lit cigarette but go without a second thought.

Dad is dying from smoking, can hardly have a conversation with him anymore as he coughs almost constantly. :(

Hi Steven,

Let's face it, you won't get your Dad to stop smoking at this stage BUT you can help him if he'll change smoking brands.

He can buy little cigars, looks just like ciggerates with filters, come 20 to a pack, 10packs to a carton, about $16/carton on-line, a little longer than 100's size. Swisher Sweets Little Cigars is what there called. Menthol cigars would even be better as it would help heal some of the damage.

There's other brands of cigars now that don't have that strong cigar smeel. Buy a pack of 5 until you find the one he likes.

Cigars are still air cured tobacco where ciggerate tobacco is gas cured and there is the huge problem. Europe, uses air cured tobacco, doesn't have the lung cancer problem that is applied to lung cancer from smoking like the USA has.

It just might help him survive a little longer with less problems than he's having now.

T_Bone, hate to burst your bubble, but one big ingredient in US cigarettes is burley tobacco, air cured. I raised it since I could remember~'60's until the buyout, burley is what gives the better quality cigs the flavor. Problem is, the smoker doesn't know what is in his cig and few companies will tell. Also, if you roll one from the barn and light it, it will go out fairly quickly. Light up a manufactured one, let it burn and it will just about burn to the nub. Makes ya wonder what chemicals are in there that keep it burning. I hate the smell of the cheapo smokes, can't be much burley in there. Makes me wonder if it's the tobacco burning or the chemicals burning that causes health problems. What's the number two cause of lung cancer, according to the docs/researchers? Radon gas. Colorless, odorless, and it comes out of the ground most everywhere.

My dad quit smoking Camels non filtered at the age of 85. My mother said the cigarett smoke was making her sick. He quit cold turkey. Died 5 years later with lung cancer. Wish I had his strength and could cut back on eating.

Hi HG,

I've lost 95lbs since August. I'm in alot of pain 24/7/365 and eat when the pain gets unbareable thus my huge weight gain. I topped at about 315/lbs at 5ft-11 in mid August, about because my scale wouldn't read above #300...lol

All I did was go to eating nothing but steak (3/4 to 1# eh) and vegetables, good sized portions not skimping, no other type of food for the first 3mths and dropped 55lbs in the first two months. I then have slowly dropped the other 40lbs since that time but I started back with a few homemade malts and speggetti once a week, canned soop/crackers a couple times month.

I'm at #226 this morning. I'm heading back too 180# my weight before I got hurt. You might try this and see what happens.

One day I was stopped at a light and this lady was next to me and I saw in the mirror she was dumping her ashtray full of butts into the street by opening her door. Well since I was driving a diesel that would run a bit rich and her face was about 2 feet from my tail pipe I BLASTED her with a full throttle blast of black smoke. It pretty much filled the inside of her car. Lets just put it this way she was darker then she was when she decided to litter in my neighborhood.

I really don't have much sympathy for smokers, at least those who are under 40, because we know there's nothing good about them. Alot of the older generation were duped by all the celebrities and even doctors saying they were good for you. Having said that, I see a lot of smokers that are just plain jerks throwing their butts all over the place. Just look down at the ground the next time you're stopped at the bottom of a freeway exit. Not to mention all the fires started by them. I hope the gov. is not giving any farm subsidies to tobacco, unless it's to aid farmers in switching to another crop. I lost my dad to a slow painful death from cancer, so yeah, I'm a bit biased.

Even when the cigarette companies were using doctors in their advertising, most everyone knew cigarettes were unhealthy. How long have preachers referred to cigarettes as coffin nails? When my granddad went to seminary he gave up smoking cigars because a preacher should set a good example.

In Japan JR East banned smoking in most portions of their stations, not out of concern for peoples health, but because of the cost. Over 2 million people a day pass through Shinjuku station in Tokyo. If 60 percent are smokers, and each one drops 1 cigarette, that would be 1,200,000 cigarettes per day to clean up. Can you imagine that?

Mark Twain said "Quitting smoking is easy. I have done it myself hundreds of times." The addictive nature of tobacco was known long before scientists knew why.

All of the men that I worked with that smoked cigarettes are all dead. One man was only retired 3 years and had dizzy spells and finally went to the local VA hospital. He only lived a few days after they did surgery. Full of cancer.

He smoked 5 packs a day and would light another one off the short smoked cigaret. I worked with
3 of them that were chain smokers in this vehicle.
Its a wonder I didn't have problems. Hal

You are not kidding about the freeway exits, the cigarette butts are everywhere, never noticed until I looked down one day.

People don't care, remember what it was like to hang out in the smoke filled bars, wish they banned indoor smoking then, it is so nice to go to a place and not have to deal with that any more. Dried up shredded cardboard with sawdust and floor sweepings, wrapped in a paper, they can't be real anymore, good fried still smokes a little, he buys the tobacco and rolls his own, if we are in the truck together, I can almost tolerate the smell of those, kind of similar to pipe tobacco, in comparison. I like a good quality cigar on occasion few times a year, not very often, but even those you have to wonder what is really in them. Regular cigarettes just smell awful, you have to know they are toxic, how people smoke them is beyond me, they're really nasty, no way they are made from a plant grown in the dirt, dried, cured properly and rolled, without some heavy processing and manufacturing in the middle, they reek like garbage burning smoldering in a barrel.

When I was a kid, my neighbor the farmer used to haul hay in from the fields, he said he used to do 20,000 bales back then, and during hay season it was not uncommon to see his old 620 jd and anything with a drawbar hauling tandem wagons down the state road, a tossed cigarette burned 2 stacked wagons full to the ground, was lucky to been able to pull over and roll em off to the side, nothing left but the warped running gear, I just asked him about that this summer, after spending a day in the fields loading for him certainly never forgot that one.
