Dont worry about him. Him and his son also have a place in Texas. I have sold several things to him over the past couple of years. His money is fast and Good ! He may take a while to pick it up though. He still had a couple parts at my last place of employment but when they shut the doors the stuff was sold at auction. They were paid for but had been there for 4 months or so. I shipped him some smaller parts in 2006 a couple times. He was always a fast payer.

Why are you Americans always so worried about abroad buyers? OK I know a tractor is kind of big, but not unaffordable to ship if you really want it.
The way the exchange rate for the dollar have gone after the subprime loans (unbelievable) etc. Get used to it! It's not payback time it's buyback time
Oh, and as I remember it the currency in Australia are dollars and their dollars are soon worth as much as yours
Sorry for your losses and good luck with your tractoraffair.

Mattias (that can't help him self when he gets going 8) )

I wouldn't worry to much. I looked up your tractor and the person who bought it. He has good feedback and has bought other items in the US. Just make sure the money is in your account before you release the tractor. This guy obviously has figured out a way to ship things to Austrailia. He bought a different tractor in November. Wire transfer would work well, even a cashier's check. Just remember you need to wait for a cashier's check to clear also. Don't assume they're good. Can take as long as a personal check. Like others have said, call your bank to make sure the funds are there. Steve

A wire transfer is best. If not, make sure the check clears and ask the bank to verify that the funds are in your account and cleared. Also, make sure that the funds are US Dollars so you don't get ripped off in any exchange rate mishaps/scams. I don't recall what Australlian currency is called, but the last I knew it was worth less than the US Dollar.

Your bank sould be able to help. If they can't, then look at the next highest bidder.

just don't release the tractor for export until the check or money wire clears and is in your account

Have your bank garentee the check has cleared - that it is 100% your money - before shipping. International checks can be real odd, you are told they have cleared as they clear one segment, but then a week or 2 later your bank changes it's mind & it hasn't cleared....

If you get any type of check for more than the agreed on amount, it is 100% a scam. Do not refund any money at all.

As others have stated, as long as check clears before the tractor leaves, nothing to worry about. Have a cousin who was in Guam during the Korean war. Married and decided to stay there. Operates a truck/vegetable farm. Buys all his tractors and equipment here in the states and ships them over. Even with shipping, it is much cheaper than buying there.

With the current exchange rate it is possible the guy is for real. One thing I would do is go to your bank and make them work for you, they should be able to sniff out a rat very quickly.

When the bank calls to let you know the transaction is complete and legit you can then let the buyer know the tractor is ready to be released.

Jersey,

The guy has decent feedback and is purchasing all similar items from the US, could be a win for ya. Only been on ebay for a year so that is a little to be alarmed about. I would say be cautious and play it by ear, demand the funds in cash or at least drawn on a US bank.

You might also look at his history, and review prior purchases for any sign that he'll pull out. Maybe you can contact prior sellers' to see what their experience was. Good luck.

As long as the check clears before the tractor leaves and funds are in your account you would not have worry on the check part, never let anything leave before a check clears.
Dont accept offers to get a cashiers check for over the amount either, they want you to give the excess to the one picking it up and then you run into a bad cashiers check later on, of course same deal goes as long as the item doesn't leave before funds clear and you have money in your account you should be safe. Just my 2 cents worth.

He's probably not going to follow through with his part of the deal. You might just contact the underbidder and make a second chance offer to him if he's closer.
