I raise cattle.....not hogs! One son got this little pig, about 25 pounds. How fast will it grow? And no, I already told he can not bring it here. He better figure out what to do with it at his place!

You should run pigs in with cattle. They will eat all extra corn in the poop and you won't need as much feed.

How fast it will grow would be just like your cattle. How do you feed and care for it.

A 300# hog can fly 25MPH with no headwind. Faster if there's a guy with a Pork ball cap watching.

Beer. It's what's for dinner.

JMS/.MN said: (quoted from post at 01:38:59 01/14/08) Normal market hog finished weight is in the 225-240 lb range. Should hit that in under 5 1/2 months. Better growing ones will do it in just over 5 months.

Sorry but all of our packers take a large price cut anymore if they dont weigh at least 270 and would rather have them at 300 but that may just be in this area or our packers the guys i am contracted to shipp about 2 potlads a day to slaughter 5-10 years ago it was 220-240 with the leaner hogs the packers figured out it cost no more to process the larger animal

Corn in the mill this morning is $5.05 and bean meal is $354/ton. 6 months is a pretty good figure for backyard pigs. If you get real high tech under a high level of management you can get them to slaughter weight of 270# in 5 months.

A hog will finish to about 300 # in a 180 days approxiametaly on the right feed we can just about get every one of ours to a slaughter house in that time period on full feed a good feed makes the difference talk to your local coop or feed store they can get you a ration

What is your secret? I raised pigs about 20 years ago and averaged about 225 lbs in 180 days feeding the feeding schedule recommended at that time.

Walt, shame on you. That is an awful thing to say about your own kin. Not as bad as a buddy of mine once said though. We were sitting in a House of Pancakes and he was reading the menu. They had something on the menue called "pig in a blanket". My buddy was reading that and said, "hmmmmm, how did they know my wife was still home in bed". Odly enough, they were divorced a year later.
