It sure wont hurt to change both at 100 hrs. That was a guess on the oil bath, but they dont do as good a job as a paper element, particularly on diesels. Then too, most people change their paper elements too often and dont change oil baths often enough. I've seen crud a half inch deep in some after a day of rolling dusty red clover hay.

Those 1210's and 990's were always my favorite tractors of all. I just love em. One of the quirks I learned in working on them was they really dislike dirty oil in the pan. All the DB engines would eat up cranks if you didnt keep the oil changed really regular. Never seen cranks like the DB's use in anything else. Really precision ground and without counter weights. Lots of guys here bought into the idea of stretching out oil change intervals with synthetics. I've done 22 or 23 bottom end rebuilds on them with the cranks and mains scratched beyond repair and all but 3 were long drain intervals (those were no oil in the pan rebuilds, lol.)

At 4000 hours that sounds like a nice low hour machine. I'd love to see some pics sometime.

My new Deere 7130's manual says 500 HRS with Deere filters and oil. No way would I go 500 hours on a loader tractor on a oil change. On my newer clean running diesels I change at 200 hrs and on the older IH diesels I change at 125. My gassers get changed at 100hrs. Oil is still much cheaper than an overhaul and a few extra changes over the life of an engine I feel realy pays off. But thats me and I'am very picky about the maintence of my machinery.

Depends on how you use the tractor. Short run times where the engine barely warms up fully should have oil changed more often (we change our diesel loader tractor about every 75 hours through the winter).

Diesel engines like to run steady loads for long times, so when using our tractors in the field we will run up to 120 hours, but usually change around 100 hours.

Manufacturer's want to make money, they can't make money unless your equipment wears out/breaks down. I don't believe their intervals - do you drive your car/truck 7500 miles between oil changes? For me, when the oil gets dirty looking and/or starts to use oil - I change it.

I have even seen some construction equip. (had a Ford 555B) call for 300 hr. which I would think in that setting less would be called for ?

I think mine call for 150 hour changes (Ford 7xxx) series. I change mine once a year, or every 150 hours. On my dozer and skid loader they both say change filter at 100 hours and oil and filter at 200. I cant see not changing both at 100.

Out of curiosity, does the tractor calling for the 100 hour change use an oil bath air cleaner or paper element?

How many have pto hour meters and how many have straight hours meters? Many new tractors are straight hours and boys do they rack up time quickly compared to a pto hour meter.

I hear you on that. All my yellow stuff (dozer, backhoe, skid steer) has straight hour meters, and all my ag stuff has the meter driven off the tach. My dad has one tractor with a straight hour meter, 7610 series II Europeon edition with the digital dash. I've got a 7610 series II orchard model of the same vintage and its still got a 'wind up meter'.
