I've got a swell idea. I'd like to take an old IH refrigerator, clean it up, remove all the guts (condensor, evap., fans, etc.) and retrofit them with new, efficient guts. It'd be a neat addition to my kitchen someday I think. Probably not the best insulated 'fridge, but it'd be worth it. Anyone know where I can find an old IH icebox? Doesn't hafta work but it does hafta be in pretty good shape. Thoughts?

The new units are junk.Im on my 3rd chest freezer.I see old IHC units that are still in use.One store has a monitor top GE they keep soda in, has to be over 70 years old.Philco Ford tried to make a better refridgerator but the cheap skate public woulnt pay the extra cost.

Neighbor had one of those when she moved out of the house. Her grandson bought the house and remodeled it. I would imagine new appliances too.

That I-6 wouldn't be near Amoret, Mo would it. Seems like a yellow one like it 'sold' on ebay in Feb '06. Here's the link. Wish it was closer.

Hmmm, well if they're not too bad energy wise, maybe I'd just take the thing apart, clean it all up and get the dust bunnies out. Perhaps put new, modern refrigerant in? Could also give the whole thing a coat of paint and re-chrome the handle and trim if they called for it. Hmmmmm indeed.

Thought I should say...I don't want to bastardize a classic appliance. I have great respect for the old giants and would love to put back one back into service. Housing food is a very noble position in my house.

Now, that's pretty fancy footwork there, and for fancy footwork to stand out during a national political year you're doing pretty darn good; a tip 'o the Hatlo hat to you!
(If you don't remember Jimmie Hatlo, ask an old timer).

Gosh, is everything I post gonna be connected with my Minnesota adventure? Haha Actually, she's kinda, a little bit, partly the inspiration for the project, but I'd still want to do it even if she weren't in the picture. And I haven't a clue about Hatlo. Probably way before my time.
