A friend is rebuilding a 4000 that he has- We can"t determine whether it is a 6 volt or 12 volt system. We don"t have the original battery and none of the serial #"s are any help. We have called the local Ford dealer and they weren"t any help. Does any one know if the 64" was 12 volt or 6 volt or both?

All ford diesels are 12v.
Here is the correct orginal wiring diagram for your tractor.

All Ford gas tractors prior to 1965 were 6 volt from the factory. (with the possable exception of the 6000 gassers- I'm not sure about them.) All Ford diesels, regardless of year, are 12 volt.

It should be a 12 volt system, most of the tractors i've seen built after 1962 at least have the 12 volt system. You could also just wire it for a 12 volt system if you have the tractor all apart.

All the ones I have seen are 12 volt --- my manual states that is the way they came from factory.

PS: I reserve the right to be a 100% wrong and I am sure that the experts will let me and you know.
