I have a Massey Ferguson 510 combine, gear drive. The transmision is junk, and i am looking for a replacement. Was wondering if transmisions from other models were the same, 300, 410, ect. Any help appreciated, also, what is a replacement worth?

We had a lot of 510s. Now we have 2 550s. I don't see much difference but the tinwork.

We run a 550 and I'm just about to buy a parts machine today.
I'm just curious, what fails in these gear type transmissions? We do 300 acres a year with our 550 (for 15 years now) and I have never had the trans apart. Maybe I'm due.

Thanks,

JP.

Its been a few years, I can't remember exactly it was, something different most of the time. The first time on the 510 a gear broke knocked a hole in the case and Dad had a fun ride freewheeling down the hill. We ran a 550 for 5-6 years and had the transmission out of it three times once it was the differential the last time was after I makde my brother buy out of it and I don't know what it was. Lee

Don't know where you are at, but here in western Illinois, the old MF's don't bring much anymore. I have 3 750's. 1 to use, and 1 for parts and 1 that is stripped out and needs to go to scrapper. Cheaper than buying used parts, I have 2 transmissions that I need to tear down and make 1 good one out of and then I have a spare again. Anyone want a hydro out of a 750 before it goed to scrapper? Chris

If you run a 510 very much you just have to figure on overhauling the transmission every so often. We"d go about 2-3 years doing 5-600 acres per year in the hills. lee

i believe the 410 has the same transmission as the 510. they are quite simple, they must be if i can work on them. have you checked which parts are bad?
