Anybody have experience using a military M332 trailer (ammo carrier) to haul cordwood behind their tractors?

I can get one in good shape local for a good price. The bed is small but I figure with some sides added I can haul a full cord as they are rated for cross-country travel at 1.5 tons

I have to agree with John it is way to heavy for that type of use. I retired from the USAF back in 2000, I used them for hauling bombs and ammo. Those things are heavy, empty in loos soil or wet ground they will sink to the axles. Put a load of wood on it and you would need something with lots of hp and traction to get out of the wood. If you could put extra wide tires on it or duals it might not sink but it would be a heavy load still.

The one we have here is way too heavy to use for hauling wood. With the 3/8th inch steel deck and a load of wood it will take a lot of horse power to move it.

If you don't mind me asking...I'll understand if you don't want to tell, but what is the good price?

$300. road worthy, good rubber, no rust holes, brakes work too.

We had those in our field artillery unit and they are a heavy built trailer. Only thing I can add is don't let it set for extended periods of time with the park brakes set as the brake linings will seize to the drums and are hard to get loose. I have seen them dragged behind a truck, forward and backward trying to get them broke loose. I don't think you could get enough wood on one of those to over-load it.
