Crusader,

I live outside of a small town called Kountze, 30 miles north of Beaumont.

I work as a process operator in a refinery in Pt. Authur.

Well, I'm out of town for work, and that's close enough. But I'll call everyone in the world to wish them a Merry Christmas...about 3 times each. I'll be home in spirit and heart.

Crusader I am not Logan but I am about half way between Hawley and Funstion. Pretty near to you. Most people don't know what "shinnery" is.

I have worked several christmases in the past, but I pulled the pin three years ago and haven't missed it at all. Miss some of the people I worked with but that is all. Merry Christmas.

Bryce

No more- family dairy farm for 30 years, 24/7/365, limited hired help for some milking, about a dozen years. Otherwise, it was first me, then Mrs and I and the kids. We averaged about one day off per year. Don"t miss the stress! But all six kids are good employees for their bosses- most common thing they say to me. Learned the value of giving a good day"s work.

No work at my job, but need to keep working on packing for our big move in another couple weeks.

First Christmas away from my parents... every year I have been with my parents on Christmas day, until this year. My wife and I will soon have our own family to spend holidays with, though!

I got the phone, and am hoping that I don't get called. If I get a phone call then that means someone isn't having a good time...or maybe had too good a time until they got caught, or there is some type of a crisis or bad thing that has happened or happening. We usually don't get a phone call if it's just to say hello. LOL, I walked into a couple of shops last week to say hello and asked about a couple of people and the first thing that was said to me is "who's in trouble and what did they do." Have had to work or have had standby numerous times in the last 22 years, but have been quite lucky with not having to "work" on Christmas very many times. On saturday I'll be headed out to visit with my wife for a week, so it's not that bad of a deal.

Logan, where are you at in S.E. Texas? I grew up in Corpus Christi, and am currently living in Abilene.

Jim

I will do as little as the critters will let me, I put out extra hay so maybe it will be slower. I worked at a factory a few years ago as a boiler operator. They would shut down production the holidays but someone had to watch the boiler. I worked more Christmas' than I was off. I have a huge respect for those that are required to work.

Someone has to operate those freight trains on Christmas. I guess it is my turn, I was lucky last year. I was home.

Tom, what road do you work for? I know a couple of engineers for CSX, and I used to volunteer as crew with the local rail museum when NS was running all the steam excursions, that was a blast.

I'm here at the fire station on a 24 hr. shift. 'Course that's probably better than being at home while the wife is stressing out about getting the house all prettied up for the relatives coming tomorrow. I hope we're not busy, three years ago we had three young men killed early Christmas morning by a drunk, driving the wrong way on the interstate. That was his fourth OMVI

I got about seventeen in, and that still ain't enough. But at least it's Christmas eve and not day. I think I've been lucky and have only worked two or three since I've been on. When the kids were little we would just tell them Christmas eve was Christmas day and they did'nt know the difference! Worked for me!

I will be working the Santa Claus shift again this year. Just found out that me and Sandy will be working the same night next year. The good side is that there are several people who will be able to stay home. Not much comfort, but my kids are used to it.

Retired, electrian by trade and farmer at heart. It seemed about every Christmas eve we would plan on comming in early. Someone would call and need a water pump checked or some ug would go bad or something that would keep us out late. Something you just have to do sometimes. Livestock have to be looked after no matter what day it is. steveormary
