Well ATT and keeps calling me from 8AM to 9Pm and I have now called them 4 or 5 times to take my self of the call list. Well give it 24 hours and they call back again. I'm getting really pissed about this and the fact that they keep on calling even thought they were told to take me off there list. Whats a guy to do to stop this from happening. Sue them or what. Needless to say I'm not happy and I'm about to really get mad about this. Some how once a day 7 days a week is more then I can take and since I told them to stop they seem to call even more. Oh and if I pcik up the phone they hang up on me to boot

Used to keep a 22 loaded with blanks by the phone. One pop usually got them the message. Check with law enforcement before doing this. Only know it worked at the time.

Let me chime in here. I get the person to stop, and let them know that the next time I get a call from this organization, it will be considered harrasment and I will file suit. It seems to work pretty well. Even on the collection agency that figured I owed 'em 800 bucks for a cell phone bill. Never had a cell phone through the company they represented. Some Aaron Ford did, but it wasn't me.

Good Luck, Aaron

The thing to do is to get the telemarketer so mad, that after you hang up, they call you back, and leave you a nasty message on the machine. Then, you can call back their supervisor and replay the message, and get them fired. Also, caller ID is worth every penny you pay for it. I look at it as war. One time I had a telemarketer for the Baltimore Sun call me, I gave her the son routine. End every statement in the word son. You get it, son? Then at the end of your conversation, ask"Do you know why I am calling you son?". The answer is, of course, "Because you are so bright, see?" I got the slum telemarketer so mad, she called my machine back, and used the MF word twice in the message. Then I called the Sunpapers back and played the message for her supervisor, and he fired her, or so he said in another message to my machine. I don't care I still wouldn't wipe my posterior with that rag!

Here is a great one. Don't know exactly how legal it is, but I would venture to guess that with a little rewording it would have the same effect and be legal.

Caller ID is the only relief we have from some of these Pests . Area code and name are displayed on all our Phones and we see the calls we would consider, all others are ignored. Junk calls are a pain in the neck.We have Cell Phone service for long distance and have considered terminating service to the land line Phones. Our PC has a designated line at $10.00 + taxes and don't know what effect termination would have on this line as it is add on to primary service. Suppose we could ask.

Is it a person or an automated recording.? If it is a person you have to be super rude to them, like say (If it is a woman) Hey you stupid broad STOP calling me! If it is a guy say Hey dumba$$ are you gay or something STOP calling me. That oughta do it. if it is a recording just dont answer. We canceled our home phone service becuase of bad service and the monthly fee $90 or so and the phone solicitors. We just have cell phones now.

Old, I have been arguing with AT&T since September over a credit that was not given to my mother. After talking to about a half dozen different reps. and getting that many different versions and instructions of what to do, I called Attorney General's consumer line and was told to file a complaint with the FCC.

I called FCC fairly early one morning and Surprise, a real person answered the phone and was very helpful. I did file a complaint over the internet, and it was very easy. I fired AT&T as Mom's long distance provider, and a little later, the credit issue has been resolved.
Now, my mom is getting calls from a rep. wanting to discuss my compliant to FCC. They call and leave a message on my Mom's phone. She no longer lives at home. I have returned the call several times over the last week, but the rep. is never at her desk. I am not really interseted in talking with her, but I will so I can educate her as to why I am discovering that more and more people are not happy with their service and business practices. I will not drop my grievence unless they compensate me for all the time and trouble that I have taken to do their job for them.

When I get home from work about once every two weeks there is a message on the answering machine, same one every time. They don't leave name of company, but just tell us that our credit card balance and payments are fine but if we want to lower our interest rate to 6.9 to press 1 now. Time is running out , this may be your last call. NOT!!
Went around and around with Dish Network. Way to long of a tale to tell here, but I ended up with an extra reciever that I had to pay for and the computer wanted it back. I called and explained the situation to them and they said they understood, and to ignore the calls. About once a month for the last 3 months we get automated call from Dish Network telling us we have not returned their equipment and if not returned imediatly, they will charge us $900, and turn us into collection. So I call and talk to them and explain situation and they say to ignore the calls and then later I get another call with the same thing over again. I finally got a supervisors Number and called her and she told me that she has taken care of the problem( twice). When the contract is up, Dish Network is going in the dumpster and Direct TV is coming to my house. Anyone interested in a Dish Network reciever that has only been used about 2 months?
Chris

I keep getting that credit card call too. It's a recording - just hang up. If I could find out who they are, I'd report them to the "Do Not Call" service. I've registered all my numbers to the "Do not call" including my cells, and it had cut the calls tremendously. If I do get a telemarketer, I try to get them to identify themselves, inform that I'm on the list, and then inform them that as soon as the call is over, I'm reporting them. Usually this gets them off my phone. The govt has handed out some hefty fines to some of the worst offenders.

I get annoyed by the telepains too. Dunno if Rudy calls your house or not with satellite TV service offers, but this computer automated voice calls once a day. Then theres the automated call telling me the warranty is about to expire on my vehicle, little do they know all my familys vehicles are all way past warranty. Then my mother periodically gives blood donations to the Red Cross, so they often call with blood drive information, then theres all the credit card and morgage offers. I kid you not if you ever tried to sleep in til noon which I do about every day since I often go to bed at 4:00AM you'd be awoken about 6 times on the average morning in this house by telemarketers, but whats really annoying is its the same ones peddling the same old stuff, making the same calls for months. I am so sick of Rudy and his pals pestering me!. Take the hint, I hung up on you the first 500 times and won't even listen to your gimicks, and I would never buy anything from them even if I needed it because I wouldn't want to give them any incentive to keep bothing me. But I know they do it because they must get some sales somewhere. Often times their rates are a little on the high side of what they are peddling and you could get a better deal through someone else. I hate the thought of the '08 elections coming up because then all those survey calls will start flooding in!, leave me alone!. Guess maybe should look into the do not call list, I think the telemarketing people are calling this house more often than they used to since so many are already on that list.

old,

Have you registered your phone number on the National Do Not Call list? If so, AT&T can get into really hot water if they keep calling you.

If not, you might want to go to
w w w dot donotcall dot gov and register with them. The only exceptions to the do not call rule is for non-profit organizations who can still call you.

I registered a couple of years ago and haven't received any marketing calls since then.

Good luck,

Tom in TN

I think there might be an additional exception.
If you do business with the company they can contact you.
So if AT&T is your phone carrier,Change carriers, enroll on do not call list.and when they call report them.
Something similar happenened in eastern Iowa-and the company was fined 15,000.00-by the FTC.
Ive been on this list since they introduced it a few years back and cut the calls by 80%.
However the political stuff is exempt

AT&T is probably the most crooked company going. Why be nice, contact the PUC or, as has been suggested the attourney general. When AT&T took over Cingular, they wanted to play games, a call to the public utilities commission got almost instantaneous results and put a stop to them refusing to refund my credit balance on my cellular account.
MCI use to play the same game, I got a supervisor one night, and made her repeat after me "NO, I DO NOT WANT MCI", it took about 6 lessons before she fully understood that I DID NOT want MCI. As I say, AT&T is a bunch of shysters, and deserve the same treatment.
Did I mention that I HATE AT&T?

CP, you have it backwards: Cingular (SBC, to be accurate) bought out AT&T, then took the AT&T brand as their own. I don't think AT&T (really the old SBC) is crooked, I just think the company consists of a bunch of different business units that can't or won't communicate with each other. I had some problems because I had AT&T for both local and long distance service prior to the merger with SBC. This resulted in a lot of unnecessary confusion as my local service was switched from "AT&T" to "AT&T". Several times I ended up on the phone talking to someone in India who insisted on trying to sell me DSL. Now I would dearly love to have DSL, but it isn't available in my area and AT&T has no intention of providing it. So every conversation went something like this:

AT&T: AT&T, how may I help you?

Me: Well, my long distance service quit working.

AT&T: Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Can I interest you in AT&T high speed internet?

Me: Can you provide me with DSL? The last time I asked it wasn't available here.

AT&T: Let me check....(several minutes pass)... Oh, I'm so sorry, DSL is not available in your area. But we do have AT&T High Speed Dialup available for only 13 dollars per month. Would you be interested in that?

Me: Uh, I think "High Speed Dialup" is an oxymoron. And I already have dialup for ten bucks a month. So no thanks. What I would really like is to get my long distance service back.

AT&T: Oh, I'm very sorry, but you will have to call a different number for that. But can I interest you in AT&T High Speed Internet?

There is a neat little device called "Catch a Call". Basically what is does is capture the computer calling you and gives it a very short burst of tone which makes the computer think its received a dead line. Had a news paper call me 6 times in one hour on one day after I kept hanging up on it. Previously the calls were weekly from the same place. I had the device waiting for some time to install, just accelerated the install date by a few days when I got tweaked. Awesome tool, not a single call since. I do make it known that I would not have the item or service expecially since they wasted my time calling. As far as telling someone that you are an officer for any agency, its not really a good idea. Impersination of an officer is a crime in any state. Regardless if you identify yourself in person or verbally. They know who they called, they could call to verify that info. Most of the time its recorded as well. Just not a good idea.

But that was back in the days where computers didn't rule the world.

If it is a computer calling at first. You pick up phone and hit the pound key about 6 or 7 times. This confusses the computer and leaves them no info on when you are home. The computer calls are done auto and this tells them and other companys when someone is home are not. If you don't answer and just hang up. This tells their computer a time factor for you being home to take call. Hopes this helps. Now even if your on a no - call list for you state. The telephone company has some kind of right to call you. Stinks but way it is.

There again.. telephone company or people who call to get you to buy from them. Can do it and it is legal for them. If you don't want to do that I said. Then ask for a supervisor and get their name and time and date. .. then give this to next person who calls on the matter. If their computer still shows you on line for calls. Perhaps they can straighten it up then.
However if the caller is from say differnt company area but still repersent ATT. You may have the same problem. Them companys could be any where and know you are not going to sue them. You have to find them first.
