My 1936 WK-40 McCormick tractor with the original 298 engine has a Delco Remy 3 bolt starter with the following numbers on it.

Delco Remy 1108010 5F28

Are these numbers enough to identify it?Is this a 6 or 12 volt starter and what other starters would fit this tractor?I've heard that an 88 Oliver starter might work.Mine isnt working too good.

No body ever installed too large a starter on an engine. Particularly on diesels.

98% likely a 6V but they do not care very much what voltage is applied. Also, they run only the correct cranking direction no matter the battery polarity. JimN

1108010 should be 1956 6 Volt IHC Mc Deering Thresher models , 141 and 160.

GOOGLE the Delco #... LOTS of "hits".

"1108010" is the Delco part #. The rest of the number is a date code.

I didn't check into the GOOGLE 'hits" to see if any applications came up for that #.

Just remember, if the number happens to not make sense for that application, it is NOT uncommon for the "bellies", with the part numbers, or the "drive end" castings to have been swapped around over the years, meaning it's POSSIBLE the original Delco numer MIGHT have no bearing on what the unit actually originally was.
