How big of a tandem disc will a case dc pull? I am thinking about an eight footer. If I get up to a ten, I think it will be a little busy. It has one set of wheel weights on it. Thanks in advance.

Is this the tall tales board? I have had several strong old tractors, but a 10 foot disk here in Pa. soil would put a major strain on a DC case, a SM or an AC WD45. I usually disk with the angle set at max. and with the disk down though.

I agree. For years we pulled a 10 foot John Deere disk behind our '51 DC CASE, but it was really too much for it, especially in spring plowing.

If your spacers are on the ground then your 20" disk is not 10" in the ground. Spacers are 3" in diam., so probably closer to 8" deep. You must have some great loamy soil.

It all depends on your soil type.My Dads old M Farmall would pull a 12 ft JD drag disk.I expect a 10 ft wheel disk would have been enough for it.

A neighbors WD-45 Allis in 3rd gear easily pulled a 10 ft #37 IH disk with a 2 section drag harrow behind it.

I pull a 10 foot with my "L" Case. That is about same size. It is a perfect match.

Used to pull a 12 ft Kewanee tandem disk behind a Ford 861 Powermaster. Was actually my mom's uncle, but we were his only relatives and actually lived on the same farm. Handled it fine, he had two chunks of railroad rail on the front hitch to keep the nose down and fluid in the tires. He used the same tractor on a 4 row 38 inch mounted lister. My opinion is, power not likely to be as big an issue as traction is. Just a guess, but think 10 ft would work well, if you can't find a true 10 ft, would suggest a 12 ft and just either remove the outer blade if there are enough threads on the shank to do that or just torch off most of the outer blade. I have an old wheel disc that measures 9 1/2 feet that I use with mine. Light ground, power is not an issue. Running non loaded 15.5 x 38's. Handles it quite well.

8 foot pull type back up disk was what was used in our area with that size tractor. With dual wheels you could probly use a 10 foot wheel type disk in a lower gear.

I was always told you need 7HP per foot. Not always the case but a general estimate. Alot depends on soil types, moisture content, tractors condition and a number of other things. I pull a 20" IH disk 10" deep at 8mph with my JD 2840 (80HP w/cab & loader) with no trouble in central IA.

Disc is an IH 470 with man-fold wings. Pull it in high, 2nd, 4th with the 20" discs half under (spacer hubs are on the ground)! I never thought I would be able to pull it that fast or deep either. Really is bigger than what I need but the neigbor didn't want it anymore and sold it to me for $500. It's been shedded all its life and is perfect. Anyway, just my experience...

Unless I am misreading your post, I would have to see a 20 feet wide disk, going 10 inches deep, behind an 80 HP tractor. What kind of disk is it. Tandem disks around these parts sure wont go 10 inches deep. My JD offset disk wont go but about 5 or 6 inches deep, and needs 10 HP per foot to pull it. I pull this 7 1/2 foot offset with 67 PTO HP MF-690, and it has all it can pull in soft ground. ARound here 20 feet wide and 10 inches deep would take over 200 HP. Tom
