They talk of farmers making more $$ next year. If these guys only were smart enough to know our costs are going up like everything else is. Doubt they included fuel, parts, fertilizer, seed, rent increases. They make it sound like we are raking in the money.

Well those wall st. yacks that work sooooo hard sweating and worrying all year making money off OUR crop got to have something to yack about and make money off others since real estate is in deep doo? They are clueless of the working world of agriculture that keeps them in diapers and it's too late to educate them otherwise till the food and gravy train is gone.

The farmers that own their ground are doing extremely well unless they had unusual weather conditions such as a drought. Have you noticed that JD has already sold all the big tractors and combine production thru 2008, so someone must be making a lot of money? The local CIH dealer has already sold all the machines he is alloted. Personally my farm income will triple this year. So unless you had a drastic increase in next year's land rent, it should also be pretty good. If I didn't have a drought and still couldn't make a comfortable return in this enviroment then I would "pack it in" and do something else.

The only ones coming out on top with the new machinery is the banker. He's going to at least get part of his money when prices go down. Because he has first dibs on everthing he has financed. And the majority of this new equipment is financed unless some big companies need tax breaks.

Commercial Farmers are their own worst enemy.Last year when corn prices went up what did they do? Went out and increased production.By increasing production it 1)brought more corn into the market place 2)Put out more demand for fertilizer, seed, equipment, land rents etc thus the price on inputs increased. Smart move would have been to DECREASE production by 10% the price for corn would have skyrocketed
and price for inputs would have dropped because of less demand. Thus commercial farmers would have made much more $$$$ growing 10% less than increasing production.BUT they never learn this lesson and are doomed to a life of low returns caused by their own hand. Hard to feel sympathy
for those that shoot themselves in the foot. And of course when the price drops after the election next year these corn growers will be left with payments on high price equipment, inputs and land. Its the late 70s all over again. Maybe Willie Nelson will sing a few songs about the bankruptcy sales like last time too

oh yeah, rakin in the dough, rolling in it.

That only goes for the CORPORATE crowd, not the little guys.

We live in a sort of feudal society similar to that of Medieval England, in which the peasants (us little men) labor under the noble's (executives) eyes while they count their money.

Oh well. :)

In the manufacturing sector.. that happens.. Cost of labor, supplies, insurance, rent, etc all increase... But the customers all demand a 5 to 7% DECREASE per year!!! Time to get out & find another occupation..

What manufacturing plant do you work for?? You are exactly right. Hard to make it go when your custumer wants a reduced price, your suppliers increase price and lower quality, the workforce wants a raise, and shipping cost double. BTDT.
