Man, you can not even go shopping at the mall anymore! Police are saying that a 19 year old left a suicide note-stated he was 'going out in style'. Goes to Westroads Mall, into Van Maur, and kills 8, injures 5 and kills himself. Happened this afternoon. WOW. Greg

Hons said: (quoted from post at 15:49:07 12/10/07) This kid has had a history of mental illness and depression and his guardian saw nothing wrong with him having this sort of weapon.

They are saying he stole it from his stepdad, it doesn't sound like it was actually his.

Nebraska is a consealed weapon state, however like most places the mall doesn't allow guns.

Sorry to have jumped the gun so to speak on this one. There were 2 separate stories on Paul Harvey news today. One was About the little girl, Alexis Coggins, who stood between her mother, and the scumbag boyfriend and was shot six times defending her mother. The other one was about the scumbag who shot up the mall in Omaha. The point Gil Gross was trying to make, and which I echo is that we should not publicize the name of the scumbags, but the heroes like Alexis Coggins, from Michigan.

The guy who was guest hosting for Paul Harvey today had the right take on this. There was a six year old girl who stood in front of this A*****E, took six shots intended for others, yet the drive-by media won't mention her name, yet use his over and over. That little girl is the hero here! Pray for her recovery!

Hasn't happened yet yet in the concealed carry states. That BS gun fight scare story gets trotted out by the anti gunners when their "gun control" ideas fail.

The press and news agencies should not glorify scumbags who do things like this by reporting them over and over again. It's too bad an off duty police officer wasn't there or an armed citizen to shoot him and end his madness like happened in Salt Lake City....

When the complainers start in on this one, they OUGHT to be demanding that Law Enforcement get a whole lot better at catching these sorts of monsters ALIVE.

If the little monster had been taken alive, he could have earned a prison sentence that he deserved---life imprisoned in a cell with someone named "bubba", and he could reget his idiocy every single day, probably several times a day in fact!

The people who think banning guns would stop these crimes are delusional. Disarming the general populace will just make things like that depicted in Truman Capote's "IN COLD BLOOD" just that much easier, since dangerous armed criminals will be sure that their victims ARN'T!

Our police need to get better at apprehending these criminals WHILE THEY ARE STILL ALIVE. This particular shooter went out thinking "I've WON!" Of course, he really hadn't but in HIS MIND, he did! We need to catch future monsters like him ALIVE so that they can discover what sort of LOSERS they really are! And properly punish them.

As it is, all that could now be done is to give him a tombstone that reads:

"THIS MINDLESS IDIOT SHOT AND KILLED 8 PEOPLE AT A SHOPPING MALL BEFORE KILLING HIMSELF"

They ought not to even put his name on the stone!

As I understand it the Mall was a "gun free" zone, just like our schools and hospitals. Note the murderer didn't attack a police station, gun shop or military base. He picked a place he knew he'd be free to do as he wished.

The answer isn't GUN CONTROL, it's PEOPLE CONTROL!

From what they are saying the guy had a pretty rough childhood, video games probably wouldn't have made much of a difference either way.

In Nebraska, now, you can carry a concealed weapon. The establishment can, however, post no guns allowed. Don't remember that mall, but they might not have allowed the law abiding to bring them in. Wonder if they will change that policy? Greg

Yes, I must agree that the gun grabbers will use this sort of thing. I also agree that everyone who owns a gun or supports the right to onw a gun should join the NRA. They may not be perfect, however they are the main reason we can still generally own guns. Listen to what the NRA will tell you about the canidates and vote the anti gun anti personal freedom ones out.

Now one other thought, what if half of the law abiding folks at the mall had been armed? What would have happened? How many less would have been killed? Someone could have shot this killer before he managed to kill so many I would bet. But all the law abiding folks left their gun at home.

Thanks for posting this message; it saved me the effort. Everyone and anyone who values their right to defend themselves should join the NRA and NEVER vote for any candidate that the NRA does not support. Mr. Bob

Terrible, simply Terrible. I feel horrible for the families that lost loved ones today for nothing. So senseless. If he wanted to go, then by all means blow your brains out, but don't ruin the lives of so many innocent families. What a selfish coward!

All gun owners, and people who respect and love all personal freedom need to join the NRA...NOW!

It's just a matter of time before the gun grabbers use the latest round of wacko killings to come after your freedom.

I wish they would start reporting on the video games they find at the homes of shooters, just as they report on the other weapons they find. If they find violent video games, the victims (Families) need to file a suit against the makers & sellers of the games. Violent video games are a tool of Satan.

Video games are not to blame for this. There are only two things to blame for this. Negligent parenting and the media. Because of past media glorification of these terrorists, people like this kid know that they will be remembered and made famous. The best thing the media could have done was not sell their souls to the devil by announcing this to the world. They did exactly what this kid wanted. They made him famous world-wide. Now for bad parenting, why should they sue the video game industry? They're the ones promoting this violence by letting this kid have an assault rifle. This kid has had a history of mental illness and depression and his guardian saw nothing wrong with him having this sort of weapon. Second suing is not the answer. It's just a way to point the blame away from their own negligence. I'm tired of people wanting to sue companies for their kid doing something dumb or in this point terroristic. The government spent over $250,000 on counseling for this kid's depression and mental health. That's why if anything, this guardian should sit in his position as far as punishment goes.
