hey guys , I was out plowing snow today with my 2000 250,,I looked down and see that I am almost out of gas,, what no way , I just had 3/4 tank,, then I notice that none of the gauges are working, fuel, temp, charge, upon travelling down the road not even the speedo, odometer or tripmeter,,I just got in and didnt look it over yet,, must be a fuse or breaker relay for this I would think, anyone know if this is correct? everything seems to be ok just no gauges on the instrument panel,,
third party image

Going to look tomorrow hopefully the manual shows a fuse for the gauges,, it would make my day,, thansk pat

Chrysler products are infamous for cold solder joints on the instrument gauge circuit board, resulting in the same problem - intermittent gauges. Heat up a soldering iron, float the existing solder on the pins and the problem goes away.

There's a fuse. Cost the neighbor $600 to find that out. His wife took it in because it stopped working. They put a whole new instrument panel in. When they got it back,he found a blown fuse on the floor. Said that had better not be where it came from. About a year later,it quit again. He changed the fuse himself,it worked.

one other thing, check the ground strap, and also the one from the cab to the engine block, my the ford truck i plowed with several years ago had this happen, snow built up on it and broke it off the cab, since the cab is mounted on rubber pads, all the gauges went wacky, took me days to figure out what the deal was

i have had 2 different fords that did the same thing. all guages including the speedometer as well as all dash lights and the radio quit. in both cases the alternator had failed. after replacing the alternator everything started working again. i drive over 1000 miles a week and over the last 10 years have found that ford alternators only seem to last about 115,000 miles. might want to have it tested.

Modern automotive electronics is something I'm kind of dim on, but on a Claas Lexion combine the cumputer senses the pulses from the alternator, and when the alternator quits, so goes everything controlled by the computer, which means everything but the hydro, steering and a few of the lights. You can charge the battery all you want, but the computer aint gonna go until the alternator is working. Is there anything like this in the automotive field? Jim

I really dont think its your alternator.I have a 2000 powerstroke, and just replaced the 230 dollar alternator, and the only guage that was affected was the amp guage,as You would suspect. It showed the negative charge, but no other guages were affected.

Check the fuses. Get out the owners manual and look for fuse for dash gages. I forget if it was under dash or under hood. Fuses both places.

Maple The best place that i have found for ford info. is www.ford-trucks.com I use this site quite often and it has helped with many ford related problems. Dealing with some of these modern day electronics a guy needs all the help he can get. Good luck with it

I agree with Bob, sounds like an alternator. While the truck is running, take a small piece of steel and touch the small quarter size center of the rear of the alternator. If it is magnetic and attracts the small piece of steel then the alternator is working and you will have to check it off of your list of possibilities.
Good luck..... ...

Don't know anything specific for this truck, but on some vehicles, a failed alternator will blow a fuse, and cause pretty much this group of symptoms.
