My god-father was in the Intensive Care Unit in the Cardiac Care Unit of the St. Cloud Hospital on Friday night because the doctor's thought he had a stroke. My aunt came home from work and he was slumped over the computer chair and had been there for 4 hours unable to move to get a phone, his arms tingling and feeling like lead weight. She rushed him to the hospital and the doctors hooked him up to machines and did some monitoring and they thought he had a stroke and had a blockage in his heart. They took him in to surgery by going in through the artery, but surprisingly they didn't find a blockage afterall and his heart is in good condition. They are still trying to figure out what caused his stroke-like symptoms; possibly his medications. Aside from Friday, he's been having some complications that he's been seeing various doctor's in St. Cloud and the U of M for the past few months but they can't figure it out. He's lost over 50 pounds in just over two months and is under 150 pounds now. He has developed Myeloproliferative disorder which is bascially that his blood plateletts are high. Everything he eats goes to diarrhea. The docs have done numerous tests from colonoscopies, bone marrow tests, treating with antibiotics for a possible virus, looking at his meds involved with his kidney and pancreas transplant, etc. but cannot figure out what the issue is. It's been frusterating becase he's been seeing so many doctors and they aren't really talking to one another and are taking so long to get the tests done and analyze them. His case worker at the U of M with his transplant has not been very helpful or timely either. He is very weak and finally got a work release. The nurses even made a mistake on that -- can you beleve that they checked "pregnancy" as the reason for his work discharge!? In any case, he has been released for work. His family is considering getting him in to mayo so specialists can help diagnose him. He is out of the cardic care intensive care unit and in the general hopstial, finally receiving some I.V. nutrient bags to try and stablize him until they can figure things out. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers!

OK. He needs your prayers as well. Just talk to the Lord like one of us or your neighbor. No special words necessary.

Dave, St Cloud Hospital is one of the finest hospitals of it"s size in the country. The U of M is also an excellent hospital. That said, Mayo is far superior to either. You are a 2.5-3 hour drive away. They may not be able to help, but if anyone can that is the place to go. Time and time again I have seen them work out solutions where other fine healthcare providers have been stumped.

I"ve been in the healthcare industry for 25 years. If you need anything send me an e-mail.

My prayers too Dave. I lost the last of my uncles a few weeks ago,so I know how you feel watching him waste away. Uncle Don was 85 and wouldn't go to the doctor though. Aunt said he hadn't gone in 20 years. He wasted away to 65 pounds. Talked right up to the end, just said he wasn't hungry. All his brothers were gone, and it seems it was just time for him to go too. Hope you can get him to Mayo and get him fixed up. It's tough to loose them.

My prayers are with you; my wife has some of the same types of problems that your uncle has and is going through the same diagnosis process.
It is frustrating the amount of time it takes to come up with a reason for a persons illness.
This has been going on for us since 1993!
