My wife loves to shop. I hate to shop and besides I have very poor taste. What do you get a women, who is 79, and doesn't need anything. What do you guys, and ladies , think about a gift certificate from her favorite store?

An old guy in the coffee shop said he hasn't gone Christman shopping in 35 years. Said he gives his daughter a couple of hundred bucks and lets her go. Said she has better taste and knows what her mother wants. Got a daughter?

Buy a good digital CD or DVD audio recorder Or a microphone for your PC, and begin the process of telling her child hood memories/stories into it. Also put your wisdom to the same effort. The classic recording is that which lets our future decendants hear our reality in our own words. JimN

antiques work fine for my wife. but non antique household stuff would keep a few surgeons busy getting it out of my head. Before the small ones a new shotgun would have worked. But if you don't know, gold and diamonds always work (if not to cheap). I know it hurts but no/wrong gifts would definately hurt more. Strange enough this year seems to become kind of unexpensive, one special bakingmould (opposite of what I wrote but she wanted one and stated that she was willing to make an exception), a gardenelf with a candlelight, the Dolly Parton biography she already laid her hands on and some more small thing/s and I'll survive till July.

To avoid allt the usual crowds in the stores I use Ebay and such but be sure to instruct the wife not to open your packages, hence the Dolly biography already being read thrice!!!!

You want to sleep outside with the dog then go ahead and get a gift certificate. Nothing can make a woman madder than an impersonal gift certificate.
By her something anything if it comes from you its what she wants.

What a hassle. I'm getting less and less fond of all holidays. I'm getting 12 inlaws for a week this year! Gift card are impersonal but my wife loves to shop also. She rattled of 3 or 4 things she wanted and I told her have I got a deal for you. I said since you like to shop why don't you go out and shop for all 4 things and get the one's you like. Man she called me about 10 times that day telling me of the bargans she found. She needed some cookware and found a store that gave a $50 gift card if she bought them. I think shes giving the gift card to her mom. Killed two birds with one stone. She got to shop and I got the buying all taken care of. I havent seen the bills yet but who cares. I'd pay a grand just to not have to do it.

One thing that's always on my wife's BD & Christmas list is "Gift Certificates for Massage or Local Spa". Now,... I'll never spend money on that, but the kids and others have gotten her Certificates and she loves them. Gets a manicure, a massage or some other pampering treatment and comes home all happy. And if Momma's happy..... I'm happy. Myself, I'd rather have a 5 gallon can of Hydraulic oil than a massage.

I resort to cash taped into a long chain of bills. It's always the right color, it's accepted at all stores and easily exchanged for other items even without a receipt.

Cash is what you give to hookers.

You should know your wife well enough to know the little things she likes. In my case it is antigue kitchen stuff or old collectibles of a certain kind. One trip to the antique mall and I'm done.
It shows her that even though she knows I hate to shop I at least tried.

I really wouldn't know about hookers but I'll take your word on it since you seem to be an expert.

As for giving cash to a wife... it's the perfect gift for someone who loves to shop. Doing the shopping for her sometimes takes the best part away.

I've done this several times along with well planned gifts and it has been appreciated every time.
